He'd been wanting to take dance classes ever since he was young, but his parents never let him. Hyunjin's entire dancing career until now was filled with YouTube videos. It all would change now. His parents didn't know that he was taking these classes. Hyunjin had just said that they were normal sport classes, which wasn't a lie. Dance was one of the many sports options they had. No more 'we just put a lot of random students with a teacher in a gym and they do some random sport things'. Finally there had been the chance to actually choose which sport they wanted to do and Hyunjin immediately chose dance.
The dance room was exactly like Hyunjin imagined it. Wooden floors, some nice lighting -it somehow felt friendly and welcoming, but maybe it was just because Hyunjin was excited- and a huge mirror on a wall. He loved it. Some students were sitting at the sides either talking or just being on their phones. Some other sat in the middle and were stretching. Weirdly Minho was one of the last category. Wasn't he a grade above them? Felix was also there, sitting at the side and watching the students in the middle of the room. Hyunjin joined him.
"Hey", he said and sat down next to Felix. "Hey", the other smiled back. He seemed tired. Hyunjin grabbed his bag and pulled his shoes out and then stopped. "Do you know if we need these?", he asked Felix and the other shrugged. "Depends on the dance style we're doing." "Hm, okay", Hyunjin said and put the shoes down next to his bag. If he needed them, he could easily get them there. He looked over to Felix, who still seemed tired. "You can lean on me, if you want to rest a bit", Hyunjin offered and the younger immediately put his head onto Hyunjin's shoulder.
Felix had been getting a lot triggers over the day. Hyunjin didn't know why, he wasn't that close with Felix, he just happened to witness every one of them. Thinking back it had to be three of them so far. One in Politics that morning, one in their second break and one in the lunch break just now. Maybe there had been a fourth one that Felix hadn't told Hyunjin about, judging by Felix's exhaustion.
A woman entered the room and clapped in her hands, a clear sign for them to gather up in the middle. "Welcome to my dance class. I'm Mrs. Jung and I'll be your teacher for this year", she said when the students had sat down. "May I ask how many of you already have experience with dancing?" Felix and a few other boys and girls in the room raised their hands. "Ok so a few, but not all. Since it's a bit difficult to get to both of yours levels we'll be separating the groups at first", she decided and continued to point towards three people standing a bit aside. "These are Seonghwa, Juyeon and Minho, they are students from the year above you. The best ones from last year to be exact. They'll be taking the ones, who have no experience and I'll be practicing with the experienced ones." All of them nodded. "But before that, let's do a warm up. To those who're not wearing shoes, please grab yours", she said and turned to put on some music.
Hyunjin went to the side to put on his shoes and shortly after the class stood there in three rows, copying the moves of the teacher in the front. Everything seemed to be okay until Felix next to Hyunjin suddenly broke down, hands on his ears. The first one to react was -to Hyunjin's surprise- Minho. "Hey Lix you're okay, I'm here", the older softly said while hugging the younger, who was now crying. "Minho, what's up with him?", the teacher asked from the front and made Minho look up angrily. "Felix just got triggered. Can't you see that?", he responded in an angry tone before turning back to Felix to hug him again."Shh it's fine, it'll be over soon, don't worry", Minho now softly said.
Hyunjin hadn't expected that from the older. At all. He'd thought that Minho was this cold guy, who ignored his friends for fun. Yes, he didn't know Minho. Yes, he was judging by a few experiences from the last two days. Today for example Minho hadn't even showed up in the lunch break and Jisung had been extremely disappointed. It seemed to be different sometimes. A big softie on the inside, huh?, Hyunjin thought to himself. He'd never let Minho hear that, but it seemed to fit better than the image Hyunjin had formed for the last few days.
"OK EVERYBODY, take a break. We'll continue as soon as this is over", the teacher then announced. Chaos broke out in the classroom. Some were rushing over to comfort Felix, others just stared, others were using the moment to rest and Hyunjin... Well Hyunjin's feelings were running a marathon. He wanted to help the younger, but he felt like he wasn't allowed to. He wasn't that close to Felix and it felt wrong to try to be there in such a vulnerable moment. But most importantly, he never had a trigger before and he felt like, if he tried to help he'd end up messing something up.
As far as he heard triggers took up a lot of energy, which would easily explain why Felix reacted the way he did. He must've felt worse than Hyunjin had thought. His energy for the day was probably all gone. Three triggers or more were so much. He felt really bad for the smaller guy.
Hyunjin took a step closer to the group of people at the ground. He wanted to help. But he stopped immediately after. His vision had turned black and white? Huh? What is happening to me? It was normal a minute ago. Am I turning blind? What do-
The black and white picture of Felix surrounded by a few people was suddenly replaced by another picture. A person was curled up in front of him. Hyunjin could hear crying sounds. He wanted to ask the person what was happening. The world was still black and white and how was it possible that he just teleported? But instead he heard himself saying: "Uh, don't cry?"
In the next moment everything was back to normal again. A still crying Felix in front of Hyunjin, Minho still hugging the crying boy and the others around them to calm Felix down.
What just happened? Hyunjin asked himself and stepped back from the scene. That was strange. I never had that, he continued to think and then it hit him, making him stumble another step back and sitting down.
Hyunjin had just been triggered for the first time in his life.
