"Nini sweetie, we need to leave out in 10 minutes so that you're not late" Lisa said outside of Nini's bedroom door before walking offShe didn't expect an answer because Nini was still super quiet around her and her husband Jorge even though she'd been in their care for months now.
They didn't know exactly what they could do except give her time. They considered sending her to a therapist, but they didn't exactly know how to tell her about them wanting her to go to one.
They knew she was extremely fragile, and were constantly brainstorming ways that they could possibly help her.
Nini finished up in the bathroom putting the finishing touches on her makeup. When Nini lived with her mother makeup was a necessity. She was constantly receiving bruises on her face that she had to cover up with makeup
Eventually using that makeup became part of her daily routine so even though she didn't have any bruises on her face anymore, it was still something she found the need to do.
Nini took a breath putting all her makeup back into her makeup back and stepped out the door where Lisa was standing.
"You ready?" Lisa asked and Nini nodded with a slight smile heading out of the door. Lisa sighed wishing she had a way to get close with Nini, but Nini had this wall up that she couldn't get through.
"Are you hungry? Do you want to get something to eat?" Lisa asked briefly looking over at Nini
"No thanks" Nini said quietly before turning her attention back to her phone.
"Nini honey, how would you feel about seeing a therapist? I know that your past was really hard and it might help to have someone to talk about it with"
"A ther—therapist?" Nini's eyes widened at the sound of Lisa wanting her to get a therapist.
Lisa noticed the fear in her eyes at the sound and retracted her statement. "Nevermind, it was just a thought. If you're not comfortable—"
"No, it's okay. If you want me to I will" Nini said softly with a fake smile on her face.
Even though Lisa knew that seeing a therapist wasn't something that Nini wanted to do, she felt slightly relieved. She though that they were taking a step into the right direction.
"Have a good day at school!" Lisa said as Nini got out the car
"Thanks" Nini said before closing the door and walking inside the school.
Nini placed her airpods in her ear blocking out everyone and everything around her. Not that anyone usually payed her any attention. Usually she didn't bother anyone and no one bothered her which she appreciated.
It was almost time for the bell to ring so Nini made her way to her first period class.
"Hello Nini" Mr.Mazarra greeted Nini as she walked into the classroom. Nini made sure that she communicated that she wanted to be referred to as Nini. Her mother called her Nina, and being called the name was triggering.
"Hi Mr.Mazarra" Nini said softly before proceeding to her seat.
A couple minutes after Nini got settled students started to pour into the classroom. She brought out her great gatsby book going back to the pages where something said didn't really make sense to her.
She had colored sticky notes within the book, so that when she went back she knew what to look at.
Pink meant interesting, blue meant something she didn't understand, and Purple meant it was something important to the plot.
When she placed a blue sticky note within her book she put exactly what it was that made her not understand.
"Alright class, coming around is an assignment sheet for your first project on The Great Gatsby. This will be a partner project so start thinking about who you'll like to work with. For this project, both of you will come up with a theme for The Great Gatsby. You'll use this theme, and make a poster. The poster doesn't have to mention the great gatsby, but the theme has to be from the Great Gatsby. Does that make sense?" Mr.Mazarra asked as the students received the sheets and looked them over.
"Alright then, since there are no questions, go ahead and choose your partners"
At the sound of that all the students went straight to their friends to have as partners. Nini looked around and sighed seeing all the pairs around her.
"I guess we're the only two left" The curly haired boy said to Nini "partners?" He said and Nini smiled slightly and nodded

"So why exactly did you agree to going to therapy?" Gina Nini's best friend asked as she grabbed her lunch placing it on her lunch tray.
"She just looked so hopeful. I mean I'm so grateful that her and Jorge provided me with a roof over my head and somewhere to sleep. The least I can do is see the therapist"
"But Nini if you're uncomfortable with it you shouldn't have to go. Especially when it comes to talking about her"
"I know" Nini frowned slightly "you're like the only person I'm comfortable talking to at all. I doubt I'll be able to open up to a therapist."
"So why don't you tell her that"
"I can tell she really wants me to do it. I really don't want to let her down, I did that enough with my uh my moth my mother" Nini struggled to say the word mother. A few tears rolled down her eyes at the thought of her but she quickly wiped them away.
"Nini I'm sure she'll understand if you don't want to go. You won't be letting her down" Gina assured her knowing how hard it is for Nini to think about her mother
"I think I should give it at least one try. Maybe it'll surprise me and it'll work"
"Okay Neens, I just don't want you to do something you're not comfortable with."
"I know, thanks Gi" Nini smiled
