"She still hasn't talked to you?" Kourtney asked Ricky as they were at their lockers before heading to lunch and Ricky was still trying to figure out what was going on with Nini."No, it was super weird. She asked Mazarra if we could switch seats and she ignored my texts. I don't know where I went wrong" Ricky sighed frustratedly. He genuinely liked Nini and couldn't figure out how they were doing so well last night, yet she was being so cold to him today.
"Maybe you should talk to her Ricky. You won't know what's going on unless you ask" Kourtney said and Ricky nodded
"You're right Kourt, I'm gonna head over to her locker and see if I can talk to her. I'll see you at lunch?" Ricky said and Kourtney nodded
"I hope everything goes well for you Ricky" Kourtney smiled and Ricky ran off to Nini's locker hoping that he could make it to her locker before her.
Ricky stood at Nini's locker hoping she hadn't been there already. He looked around for her seeing the different students walk past him and to his classes.
Right when he was about to head off he locked eyes with Nini. Nini's eyes widened at the sight of the boy at her locker and she tried to turn around and go the other way
"Nini wait!" Ricky called running after her. Nini picked up her pace in attempts to get away from him but it didn't exactly work in her favor
Ricky was easily able to catch up with the girl and stop her.
"Nini what's going on? Talk to me"
"I just I need some space Ricky" Nini said, with her eyes glued to the ground. A clear indication that she was lying and Ricky new that. She couldn't look at him and lie.
"You're lying"
"What?"
"You looked at the ground when you said that, you look at the ground when you're lying. What's really going on Nini?" Ricky said and Nini didn't know whether to hate or love the fact that he knew her so well.
She started to play with her fingers something she did when she was nervous, and Ricky also noticed
"You don't have to be nervous around me Nini"
"How—"
"You only play with your fingers when you're nervous" he chuckled a bit
"I- I don't want to talk about it here, there are too many people around" Nini said and Ricky looked around and saw that there was an empty classroom nearby. He gently grabbed Nini's wrist and pulled her into the classroom.
"Please talk to me, what's going on? I cant take you ignoring me Nini" Ricky said and a few tears began to slip from Nini's eyes. As soon as they fell Ricky swiped his thumb across her cheek and stopped them from falling any further
"Why do you like me so much? I'm just—I'm just damaged goods" Nini said sadly
"What? Nini no you're not. You're so beautiful and funny and smart. I love being around you because you know how to make me smile. Your smile brightens up a room, and your presence alone makes me so happy. That doesn't sound like damaged goods to me"
"If all of that is true, then why couldn't my mother love me? The person who was supposed to love me most didn't? She hurt me more than anything. Why is that Ricky?" Nini asked continuing to cry. These were thoughts that constantly found their way to Nini's brain. The person who was supposed to love and protect her the most didn't.
"Your mom was too blind to see the amazing person standing in front of me. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that but I promise you, you are amazing. You're one of the most amazing people I've ever met"
"Ricky it's only a matter of time until you leave. I'll be too much for you to handle and you'll leave, that's what everyone in my life does. They leave. My mom left, my dad left. The people who were supposed to love me unconditionally left me. I'm incapable of being loved" Nini broke down, and a few tears fell down Ricky's eyes seeing that the girl was dealing with this.
He pulled her into his arms and held her as she cried. The things she's had to go through in her lifetime were unacceptable. She didn't deserve the way that she was treated and Ricky was determined to show her the way that she deserved to be treated.
"It's okay, I'm not going anywhere" he whispered as she sobbed and kissed the top of her head "I promise I'm here for the long run" Ricky said as he held the girl in his arms. He couldn't help but let a few tears escape from his eyes seeing her in this position.
She slightly pulled out of the hug, looking into his big brown eyes with her tear filled ones "thank you" she managed to get out
"I'll always be here for you Nini. I promise that you're not incapable of being loved because I love you. In this little time that I've gotten to know you, I've fell for you, and if you let me I want to love you and cherish you Nini"
"You really mean that?" Nini looked up to him with hopeful eyes, and he nodded a smile breaking out on his face
"Yeah, I really do"
"I love you too Ricky. I'm sorry for trying to push you out of my life, I just I felt myself falling and I was terrified that you'd hurt me and leave me like everyone else"
"I promise you Nini. I'll never leave you. I'm here to stay." He smiled "would you like to uh be my girlfriend?"
"I'd love to" Nini smiled and she pulled him into yet another hug, but this one was full of happiness. It was tight and both of them had smiles on their faces.
"You wanna go to lunch now?" Ricky asked wiping the remaining tears off of Nini's cheeks
"Yeah, let's go" Nini said placing her hand in Ricky's as the walked to the lunchroom hand in hand for the first time as boyfriend and girlfriend.
