TW// AbuseAs Nini and Ricky sat in her room working on the project, but Nini's attention was elsewhere yet again. She tried her best to pay attention because the due date of the project was pretty close and they were nowhere near as far as they should be, but she just couldn't focus.
"Hey..you okay?" Ricky said giving Nini a concerned look. He could tell the girl wasn't in a state of mind to be doing school work
"I'm fine, we're already kinda behind I don't want to push the project to the side again"
"Talk to me Ni, we won't be able to get much done if your head isn't in it anyway" he chuckled. They were behind on the project but as far as he was concerned, she was more important.
"I'm just super nervous about the game tomorrow, I mean I just started playing what? A month ago. There are so many people who are better than me"
"Hey! Don't even start with that because even though you just started playing a month ago you're an amazing player. You've come such a long way, and I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks Ricky" she smiled "somehow you always know exactly what to say to make me feel better"
"I've been told I have a way with words" he joked and Nini lightly hit him
"Shut upppp"
"You wanna go practice?" He asked and she looked at him nodding her head and the two wasted no time heading out the door and into Ricky's car.
They sat in a comfortable silence with Taylor swift softly playing in the background before they arrived at the school and into the gym.
Ricky set up the volleyball net before Nini took her place on the side of the net she was most comfortable on.
"Alright so since you have your first game tomorrow we aren't gonna focus on one skill in particular. I was thinking we can do a one on one scrimmage?"
"But you're way better than me that isn't fairrrr" Nini whined and Ricky couldn't do anything but laugh.
"It's just for practice. Plus you're amazing. You got this" he said walking over to her bringing her into his arms. She took in his scent which immediately calmed her nerves
"Okay"she said and he smiled heading back over to the other side of the net.
"Alright you ready?" Ricky asked and Nini nodded before he served the ball over the net. Nini spotted where the ball was going before calling it and hitting it back over the net.
They volleyed ball back and forth until Ricky was unable to get to the ball in time and it fell to the floor earning a smile from Nini.
"Look at that. The student winning against the coach" Nini smirked cockily
"Not for long Nini" Ricky chuckled taking in the happiness of the girl.
"Talk to me when you get a point Bowen" she gloated with a smile warning a chuckle from Ricky before she headed behind the line to serve.
Nini was super comfortable with underhand serves so she decided to take overhand to get more practice in with it.
She threw the ball in the air, and hit it over the net with all the strength that she had. The ball hit the top of the net going back and forth for a second.
She closed her eyes hoping it'd topple over to Ricky's side and Ricky tried to decide whether to go for it or not. Neither of them knew which side the ball would land on until it dropped onto Ricky's side of the net.
