TW// Abuse,Death"Hi, come right in" The therapist welcomed Nini inside her office with a smile. To say Nini was nervous was an understatement. She hated being around people who she didn't know or were unfamiliar with.
"My name is doctor Evans, and since this is your first time here, I'll tell you a little bit about myself. Sometimes it helps to know a little bit about the person you're talking to" Doctor Evans said getting her things together such as a notepad, pens, etc.
"As I said before, my name is Doctor Evans, I'm a mother of 2.I'm originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but I moved here when I was about 17 years old. I've been working here for about 2 years now so I have a pretty good amount of experience under my belt, and I'm super excited to get to know you. Please keep in mind that anything that you tell me is completely between us, and I'm gonna do everything I can to help you " Doctor Evans said with a smile and Nini nodded
"So it says here your name is Nina?" Doctor Evans said and Nini's eyes grew wide almost instantly.
Flashback
"Mom I know I'm late, and I'm super sorry. The bus broke down and they didn't get it back up and running until an hour had already passed. My phone broke so I couldn't even text you" Nini said out of breath. She'd ran from the bus stop to her house trying not to be later than she already was. She knew how her mother was.
"Do you know how worried I was about you Nina!?!?" Her mother raised her voice. It was clear that she'd been drinking and Nini smelled the alcohol on her breath.
"Mom I'm sorry there's nothing I could've do—"Nini was cut off feeling a stinging sensation on her cheek. Her mother had just slapped her and almost instantly tears started to fall.
"I'm always getting apologies from you Nina! Yet you never take responsibility for your actions. I'm tired of you excuses and apologies! Why can't you do something right for once in your life?" Her mother ranted and Nini avoided eye contact with her as tears continued to fall down her face
When her mother would say things like this to her, she felt like no matter how hard she tried, she was never good enough. She could never please anyone.
"ANSWER ME NINA! WHY CAN'T YOU SEEM TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT!?!? WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO DISAPPOINT ME OVER AND OVER AGAIN??"
"I don't know! I'm trying mom. I really am but—" Nini stopped not knowing how her mom would react to what she was about to say. She'd rather remain quiet.
"But what Nina?"
"Nothing"
"ANSWER THE QUESTION!!! BUT WHAT NINA"
"But it seems like nothing I ever do is enough for you."
"You're right Nina. Nothing you do is good enough for me. Because somehow, someway you always find a way to be a disappointment."
"Wow. I'm going to my room" Nini said turning around. It was like she physically felt her heart break hearing those words coming out of her mother's mouth. She tried to remember that it was the alcohol talking but regardless of that, her words hurt. Badly
As soon as Nini turned her back she felt someone push her forward right into the front door head first.
As she felt herself run into the door she tried to cushion her fall with her hands, but the force was too much causing her to break her arm
"Owww" Nini cried out in pain
"You'll be okay" her mother said as she looked at her daughter sobbing on the floor holding her arm, and blood gushing from her forehead
"No mom! I think you broke my arm! I- I can't move it!"
"THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT YOUR ARM OUT NINA. DON'T BLAME THAT ON ME"
"Mom you don't care?" Nini said with nothing but hurt in her voice
"You can take the bus to the hospital to get that checked out. You better hope it doesn't break down this time" her mother said taking another drink from her bottle and heading back to her room as if nothing happened.
Nini was left alone with a broken arm, and an open wound on her head sobbing her eyes out. When she finally got the strength to get up, she made her way to the hospital.
End of Flashback
"Ple-please call me uh Nini" Nini stuttered out still in shock from the flashback she just had. A few tears streamed down her face but she wiped them as soon as she noticed that they had fallen. Doctor Evans noticed the discomfort Nini visibly showed and took note of it
"So Nini, I told you a little bit about me, would you like to tell me a little bit about you?" Doctor Evans asked and Nini simply shook her head
"Okay, I understand this is a new environment and I have no intentions of forcing anything out of you. If you don't want to talk, you don't have to talk" she said and Nini nodded her head
"Is it okay if I talk to you though" she asked and Nini saw no harm in that so she nodded. It actually might help for her to be more comfortable around her
"So Nini, I'm not sure of your story quite yet and I'm excited for you to tell me when you're ready, but I just want you to know that I am here for you. If you ever need someone to talk to my door is open. And I want you to know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with going to therapy. I was actually in therapy myself when I was younger"
"Why" Nini asked now interested. She never thought that someone who once needed therapy would actually be able to be a therapist
"Well, when I was younger I had a really close relationship with my dad. He used to take me to baseball games with him, and he'd teach me how the game worked. He was with me at every father daughter dance when I was younger, and he'd always go out his way just to spend time with me. I was a true daddy's girl"
"One day, he was on his way to buy me this dress I kept bugging him for. It was supposed to be our last father daughter dance and I couldn't see myself in any dress other than that one. He uh, he got into a car accident on the way there. Drink driver drove right into his car and he was dead immediately"
"I felt like it was my fault. I blamed myself for it for years. If I hadn't bugged him so much for that dress I thought he'd still be here. With me. I refused to eat, I refused to drink, or even leave my bed. I didn't think I deserved to. That's when my mom sent me to a therapist and it honestly changed my life" Doctor Evans told her story and by the time she was done a few tears had fallen down both her and Nini's cheeks
"I'm so sorry" Nini said, her eyes full of tears. By the way Doctor Evans carried herself she never would've thought she went through something like that
"Things are a lot better now, I've come to terms with everything that happened and I'm overall better. So I promise you nini. They'll get better for you too. I'm gonna make sure of it"
