Mobius, having studied almost every moment of Loki's entire life, was the only person besides Thor and Frigga who knew of Loki's tendencies to transform himself into a feline whenever he felt threatened.
Loki sure felt very threatened after one of the minutemen mistook him for an enemy and nearly pruned him into nonexistence.

Pairing: Loki/Mobius again because writing about these two is the only thing I do now.

It was a mistake, not necessarily a mission gone wrong as a whole, no, really, the mission was a success, but one stupid intern nearly disintegrating Loki because he thought he wasn't one of them, was a mistake. A big mistake that, hadn't Mobius stepped in and bodily pushed Loki out of the line of the reset stick's end just in time, would've ended a lot less pretty.
"Are you okay?" Mobius asked, with both himself and Loki still pretty much lying on the floor, after Mobius jumped in, and in the process Mobius himself nearly got disinterested, too. If that stick touched him, if the end of it touched either of them no matter how light the contact was....
"Loki, are you okay?" He asked again, louder, clearer, but his voice was nowhere harsh. Concerned, yes. Panicked, also true. But not harsh.
Loki was lying under Mobius. He hadn't moved an inch after Mobius pushed him out of the way, resulting in them both losing their footing and ending up on the floor. Although he was shaking, not frantically but Mobius could feel the slight tremble of his shoulders still, with Mobius' hands still around Loki's body.
"I'm sorry," the intern said, the reset stick still in his hand, though he, too, was shaking. Probably because he knew he was fucked, if he messed with Mobius. And God, Mobius was angry now, not at Loki, of course. "I didn't... I thought... it was an honest mistake, sir, I swear!"
"Go." Mobius said through gritted teeth, his voice suddenly turned darker, murderous even.
"Sir, I —"
"I said go. Now!"
And that, the intern knew, was that. He gulped and quickly excused himself. At least, Mobius didn't deem it fit to disintegrate him as a consequence for such a mistake. He wouldn't want to linger around a second longer, in case Mobius were to have a second thought.
"Loki," the second they were alone, Mobius turned his head back to Loki, who still refused to say a word. "Loki, it's okay. You're okay now," he said clearly, reassuringly, after he was sure the stick did not touch Loki, as he started guiding them both back on their feet.
He was still shaking a little, already back to standing next to Mobius. Loki's hand was on Mobius' arm, clinging tightly onto him, which Mobius allowed, even if the grip was tight enough it was somewhat uncomfortable, Mobius allowed it. "You're okay now," he repeated gently, and earned no verbal response from the scamp.
Oh no, Mobius thought. This wasn't good. He knew it was not good, because he'd studied Loki, and if something bad happened — something that considered bad enough that Loki retreated into shutting himself off and going completely silent — it wasn't going to be easy easing him back into being comfortable enough that he talked again. So no, this was not good. Not at all.
~~~
Mobius' fear was proven right the moment they returned to the TVA compound and Loki was nowhere to be seen. It was almost as though he disappeared into thin air, no matter how careful Mobius was at keeping an eye on him, he was just... gone.
Part of Mobius was worried if Loki simply escaped altogether, but that couldn't be the case, because if he did, Ravonna would've known. She would've known, and Mobius wouldn't have been able to sit peacefully — as peaceful as he could, anyway — with a cup of coffee in his hands, trying to figure where a scared Loki might be hiding.
