Loki felt as if the world around stopped turning, all the noises - gunshot, scream and yelling - suddenly became mute for the fallen prince of Asgard could only focus on one thing: her. Fear crept up his spine when he saw a bullet made its way through her skin. His body automatically lunged forward to catch her, without thinking about those bullets rain flying from all directions it could have pierced his skull, before she could hit the ground. Only when he was on his knees, cradling her limb body against his chest, and her warm blood soaked his suit did his trance was broken. Over the chaos, Loki heard Tony shouting "y/n's down. We're outnumbered! We need to go. I repeat, we're outnumbered. Get out of here now! Reindeer game, get y/n to somewhere safe!" Iron Man turned to Loki at the latter part.

It was scary how Loki couldn't even remember taking y/n out of the bloodbath. Everything was a blur for him, and before he knew it, he found himself in the quinjet, holding y/n's hand. She was unconscious. Tony already gave her first aid kit, but immediately medical attention would be the first thing she was getting once they made it to the compound.

The mission was a disaster. Everyone was wounded. No one spoke a word, but Loki knew this was on him. He was the one giving them the location he should have known it was a trap! It was his fault things turned out like this, his fault y/n got shot, and he'd never forgive himself for that.

Loki knew just how it looked like, even with everyone's silence, he knew they suspected him. He could already see a big 'traitor' labeled on his forehead. That must be what the team thought: him betraying them by leading them into this trap. Alter all, he was the God of Mischief, a trickster who could never be trusted no matter how hard he tried to prove himself he changed, Loki the villain would always be how everyone saw him.

It was a through-and-through. After five hours of surgery, they declared y/n was going to live, but with scar to remind herself of the incident. Loki never left her ward. He refused to talk to anyone ever since they got back to the compound, too burdened by guilt and shame to made eye contact with the team. His behavior sure didn't go unnoticed by the Avengers. Steve sighed as he stood in distance, watching Loki shedding another tear. If this was 2012 where Loki first set foot on earth as the bad guy who tried to take over the planet, they sure would have put him in highest security dungeons by now, but after Ragnarok, they knew the man had changed for the better. No one blamed him for what happened since there was no way Loki could have known it was a trap

"He blames himself" said Captain America. He and the rest of the team sure didn't enjoy enjoy seeing Loki drowned in the thoughts of this being his own fault. "My brother carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. A lot more than anyone, including me, could ever imagine. The deaths of our parents led to the end of Asgard, the struggle to find out who he is. It wasn't easy to try to find the right path to walk on. He... he's still working on it. What happened today just made that weight even heavier for him" Thor spoke as he stood next to Steve, eyes on his brother, and arms crossed across his muscular chest. "Someone should go talk to him. Shouldn't it be you?" Steve suggested, glancing at the God of Thunder and Thor sighed, running his hand down his face "It's no use. I've tried before. He'll just... put his guard up and shut me out" Steve nodded slightly. Captain America went quiet for a few seconds before saying "Can't say I understand how hard it is, going through something so traumatic year after year, but I know it must be very hard... Buck went through those pain and he's working on getting over it too. My friend, your brother, they didn't deserve any of these. I'm sorry" "I know, Cap. I'm sorry, too" Thor replied with a hint of pain in his voice. Steve then tapped twice on the God of Thunder's shoulder as a way of comforting before he walked away. And after a moment of standing alone, Thor decided he'd give his brother personal space with y/n.
