Something was wrong with Loki... medically wrong. He could feel it, but was not able to stop it. His worst fear was Mobius seeing his true grotesque self.

Or, a sickness took a toll on Loki's magic. It forced him to reveal his Jotun skin.

Pairing: Loki/Mobius M. Mobius

Oh look, it's the classic Mobius-sees-Loki-in-his-Jotun-form trope! I know it's been written before so many times by so many amazing authors out there, but I just wanted to contribute my version, too. And I mean, we can't have enough insecure Loki and protective Mobius. So... enjoy!

It first started with a headache, a nagging pain in his throat that was there every time he swallowed, which was in no way alarming, considering how often Loki fell ill during summers. He'd been confused at first, when he was little, why Thor and the rest never seemed to have problems with high temperature. It all made sense when Loki learned his true heritage, the Jotun blood running through his veins.

Frost Giants never did well with heat. So that explained why his immune system went drastically downhill every time it was slightly warm.

Summer in Midgard was somewhat more bearable than it'd been when he still lived on Asgard, which was something Loki counted as a blessing. The season still brought him discomfort, sure, but it wasn't as bad anymore. Maybe it also had something to do with his reaching adolescent, thus his immune system was no longer so weak.

It was particularly hot these past couple days, hotter than anything Loki remembered ever since he settled down on earth with his significant other, namely; Mobius.

______________________________

It was a simple life, after the TVA was no more and Loki realised going back to the main timeline wasn't a choice. He had been lost, but Mobius had always been there. Even if Loki did try pushing him away at first, Mobius was stubborn. His kindness and his love tapping Loki into accepting the purpose he still had even when things didn't seem that way, and he soon came to know the purpose his life held, was with Mobius.

"What are we?" He remembered asking Mobius exactly that when they lied awake in bed one night -- the clock on the nightstand hit three o'clock -- with Mobius's strong and protective arm wrapping around his middle from behind, his embrace firm yet so gently, so loving.

"And what do you want us to be?" Mobius had asked back, then. His voice soothing as always. His face buried in Loki's hair as he leaned in to kiss Loki's temple, and Loki found it impossible not to learn into the touch.

"I don't know," Loki had admitted. They hadn't really labelled their relationship, what they really were, because they never felt the need to. It was only them, living together in a small house by the beach where Mobius would enjoy his jet ski rides, where he'd occasionally take Loki out in the sea with him, too. "I just... like this, us being like this," Loki's voice was soft as he went on.

"Then let's continued being like this," Mobius was smiling. Loki couldn't see his face, but he knew he was smiling.

He'd taken Mobius's hand in his own -- the one holding him from behind -- moving it up and placing a kiss on the back of the former agent's hand.

"We can be like this," Mobius reassured. "Just be us. That's enough,"

And Loki never responded back. He liked this, liked the life he shared with Mobius, and the feelings he had for him, they were real and Loki knew that. The way Mobius made him feel, no one else could. Part of him was still afraid, of what he wouldn't know, but all of this was still new for someone like him. And he was afraid it might be too good to be true, if one day Mobius might realise he deserved someone better; someone better than Loki, and then he would leave. Mobius was different, true, but if -- or when -- that day came, Loki wouldn't blame him at all.
