Your head spins when you sit down in front of Principal Sage. Usually, she's a nice, calm teacher that smiles at everyone as they pass her in the hall, and eats with students at lunch time. Everyone likes her.
But right now, she looks at you in disgust. And it hurts. So. Much. You and Jacob are usually A+ students. Always on time, getting some of the best grades there are. But not today.
"Could you please explain." Sage says. "Why you two were late to class?"
Jacob takes over, defending you. "We were just talking." he argues. "We didn't realize the time, and got a bit carried away. We're very sorry."
Sage smiles. But quickly she frowns again. "Anything you have to say Miss Winters?" she asks you.
Gulping, you nod. "I'm really sorry. You must be very disappointed in us."
"I very much am." Sage says, triumphantly. She beams at the fact that somebody actually took her point. Not many students did. They usually don't take her seriously, due to the fact that she sometimes acted like a kid.
"Consider this a warning." she says. "You may go now. Your teachers will be expecting you in their classes soon."
"Thank you." you and Jacob utter at the same time. You both pick up your bags, and head out the door. Silently, you both head to your lockers and get out things for your next classes. Without saying goodbye, you leave.
Time passes slowly. Usually you enjoy school. But after the principal's warning, it seems the school day has been going on for forever.
By the time the last bell rings, you dash out of the school, ready to head home. You don't really want to speak to Jacob right now, afraid you'll get into more trouble. Also, you're crushing really hard, and you might make a fool of yourself.
But you can't ditch a celebrity. Jacob runs after you as you walk along the path, on your way home. "Wait up Y/N!" he shouts. you pretend not to hear him. "Y/N! Wait."
You turn around, as if you just started to hear him. You stop and let him catch up. His hair flops up and down as he runs. When he catches up, he bends over and gets back his breath. "Hey," he says.
"Hi." You say back. You both start walking again.
"Sorry I got us in trouble," he apologizes. "It's my fault. I wanted you to meet my sister."
"No it's fine." You say. "She was really adorable. And it was totally worth it. I've never been to the principal's office before. It was . . . an interesting experience."
"JACOB!" Screams a voice from behind you. You whirl around to see Erica running after you. Jacob smiles. "You idiot." Erica glares at him, smacking his stomach with her lunch box. "You promised you'd wait for me."
"Whatever." Jacob says, still grinning. He makes puppy dog eyes, begging to be innocent. "I couldn't find you. You were late."
Erica jabs him with her lunchbox once again. He winces. "Okay, okay!" he says, throwing his hands up. "I deserved that. Come on!"
All three of you laugh as you run ahead. For once in your life you have friends who don't care about what you look like, and the fact that you're probably the weirdest person in the whole wide world. You have friends that actually care.
