"What?" You ask, clearly confused. Jacob Tremblay. Asking you on a date. This had to be another dream. You pinch your arm. Nope. Not a dream.
"There's a school dance next weekend." Jacob explains, playing with his fingers. It took a lot of his courage to ask you. You can tell. "I was wondering if you wanted to be my date for the dace."
You gape at him in silence. "That - um - that is if you want to." Jacob stutters.
"Of course!" You exclaim, breaking out of your confusion. There's nothing more you could ask for. This was the best thing that had happened to you for the longest time. Also, if you said no, Jacob's heart would probably break into a zillion pieces. Not that you would say no.
"R-r-really?" Jacob stutters. He seems to be nervous.
"Yes really!" You exclaim.
You run at him to give him a hug. He grabs you in his warm arms, and swings you around. "This is the best thing that's ever happened to me." He whispers into your ear as you head to leave.
"The same for me too." You agree.
At home, as you slip through the door, your mom stands in front of you, hands on her hips. "School?" She asks. "What a great excuse."
"Sorry mom." You say, head pointed to the ground. "I forgot it wasn't a school day."
"That's fine." Your mom says, too tired to take you seriously. She yawns and pads off to the kitchen, where she makes herself coffee.
You call Irene, using her old phone to her new one. She picks up. "Irene?" you ask.
"Yeah, Y/N?"
"Can I come over?"
"Sure."
"I need you to give me a makeover." You say simply, as Irene sits you down in her room. Her room is always messy. Art is everywhere. Paintings up on walls, designs and collages up on every shelf. It's like a crazy room in Wonderland.
"I have just the things." Irene beams. She pulls out a bunch of makeup things.
She starts with a little concealer. After that, blush. Eye shadow and eyeliner . . . when she's all done, Irene turns you around, and sets a mirror right in front of your face.
"Ta-da!" she shouts. You gasp as you look at yourself. It's a completely different look. Before, the definition of you was Nerd. Now, you could be a super model any day. "Oh!" Irene gasps. "I forgot!"
She removes your thick glasses. "Agh!" You exclaim. "But Irene, I can't see without my glasses. Put them back on me right now!"
"Wait." Irene presses. She hands you something slimy. "Put that in your eye." You do as your told, and suddenly you can see again. Another one falls into your hand, and you put it in the other eye. Contacts.
"Irene," You say, gaping at your reflection in the mirror. "Is it okay if you do this again when the school dance comes around?"
"Yes." Irene says, putting some makeup supplies away. "Wait - you have a date? Lucky! OHHH! Is it that Tremblay boy? I soooooo wish I was going with him."
"Yes." You say. "It is the Tremblay boy."
