You slam your locker closed at the end of the day. Irene walks off. She doesn't know about your parent's new rule, and you haven't told her anything. You feel bad for pushing her out of your life. But before you race after her, Jacob taps your shoulder, causing you to jump.
"Sorry." he says. You notice he keeps looking at your hand. Does he want to hold it? You save him the time by grabbing his. He looks at your entwined fingers with shock, then recovers and continues. "Sorry I can't walk you home?"
"Walk me home?" you scoff. "I'm not going home until my mom begs me to. I'm not listening to their rules anymore. Can we go to your house?"
"Umm . . ." Jacob says, thinking. "Sure. My parents aren't home yet, but Emma is. She's been wanting to meet you so I guess that works out."
"Great!" You say, walking ahead. You realize you're still holding his hand. You blush, and stay next to him. A few kids whisper to their friends as you pass by them. You hear snippets of what they're saying:
"I heard they're together now . . ."
"Jacob and Y/N Sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G."
"UGH - they are so not good for each other."
You blush more than you already are. Your hand slips out of Jacobs. You see the way he notices too much. It makes you wonder if he heard the comments too.
"So this is your house." you say. You stare in wonder at the mansion. It's a huge, Victorian style house on the most beautiful street imaginable. Trees, bushes, and luxurious grass cover the lawn. A lot of the houses on the street look similar. It's like a castle.
"Trust me," Jacob says after a minute, letting you admire the view. "It gets old fast."
"Can I go inside?" You ask, jumping up and down. Jacob nods, and you practically run up to the front door. Jacob gets out a key, and unlocks it with a click. The door opens.
Inside is just an average house. It doesn't look like something a family of celebrities would live in. Just a plain old livingroom and dining room. But there still are a few stained glass windows and cute fancy touches to it here and there.
"Where's your room?" You ask Jacob after he's done giving you a tour of the downstairs.
"In the attic." He explains. "Follow me." he leads you up the stairs, to a little door in the hallway of the second floor, and up a spiral staircase. The room is adorable.
Blue walls, covered in movie posters and pictures. A desk and shelves on one wall, with a big blue bed against another. Little windows let in bright sunlight from outside. One of them had a beautiful view of the backyard.
"This is the best part." Jacob says, opening the window. He holds on to something, and jumps out. You scream. You know Jacob is about to kill himself.
But the thought doesn't last long. Jacob continues to hold on, and the zip line leads to a tree. He pushes it back to you, and you hold onto it. "Come on!" He cries. You close your eyes and let your feet up.
The handle bar slides to the tree. Between the branches, there is a small treehouse. This was the best thing you've ever done. You loved having no more rules.
