Chapter 183

Matt's POV: After making our way home, I smiled as we pulled into the driveway and opened my eyes. Grabbing my hand, Gabby smiled at me. "Guessed you already knew we were home?" I nodded. "I know how far we are from the firehouse. I have done the drive enough to know." Gabby smiled and agreed with me as she rubbed my hand. "I had a great day today. But listen, we need to get the little ones out of their car seats and in bed. Then, we need to put Matteo to bed before we can cuddle on the couch and have that nice glass of wine you promised me."

I smiled when she said that because what she was describing sounded like the perfect night to me. A quiet night with my wife, cuddled up to one another on the couch by the fireplace while drinking some wine. Having been the one who suggested it made me even more proud because I thought of a really great, simple date that we can do every other shift just the two of us. Gives us time alone and away from the craziness of our life. I then went to get out and smiled while opening the bar. I then looked at Matteo. "C'mon Matteo, let's go inside." Matteo then nodded.

Getting up out of his seat, he then squeezed between the two car seats before getting out next to me. "Walk to the door okay buddy?" Matteo nodded and agreed as he walked over to the door. Meanwhile, I went to grab Ella's car seat. "I think we switched them around." Gabby laughed as she opened the door to Wally's seat and then grabbed him. "Does it really matter?" I shook my head and laughed before going to grab my laptop and work bag. I then also decided to grabthe diaper bag for Gabby. Putting them over my shoulders, I then proceeded to close the sliding door and walking towards the front.

Waiting for Gabby to join me, I switched Ella's car seat to my right hand before reaching for Gabby's when she walked up to me. "Honestly, I have to say though that today was a great day. I want you to really consider making this the routine. Us bringing the kids to the firehouse while you are still on maternity leave. I think everybody loved having them there." Gabby smiled and agreed with me. "I feel the same way. But, I still think we need to start setting up play dates between Matteo and Theo or Olivia." I thought about it and nodded.

"You want to go see Antonio and Sylvie this weekend don't you?" Gabby sighed when I said that. "I know it's a lot to ask because it's your days off to be with me and the kids but..." I then turned to look at her before bringing her close. "Hey Gabby, it's me okay? I am not Chief Casey anymore...I am your husband. I know you are worried about them. It's unavoidable because she's your best friend and he's your brother okay? If you need to go visit and see them...then of course we will Gabby. I don't want you to have anxiety over stuff you can't control."

Gabby smiled when I said that before continuing to walk inside with me. "Have I ever told you that you are the best?" I smiled and nodded. "I know." Gabby then slapped me because that was not what she walked to hear. "Hey, I didn't marry someone who is cocky. Don't you dare start." I then laughed and smiled at her. "Trust me, you did marry someone that was cocky. Remember, I am the youngest ever CFD Lieutenant, Captain and now Chief." Gabby then turned to look at me. "Hey, that's not being cocky Matt. That's achievments that you are allowed to celebrate."

I smiled and nodded when I went to open the door for her. That's when I remembered to lock the van with the key and I did. Walking in behind Gabby, I then went to close the door behind us before taking off my boots and locking the door. "Matteo, go upstairs to your room. Daddy will be right up to tuck you in okay?" Gabby then looked at me. "I didn't brush his teeth." I nodded. "Actually Matteo, meet me in the washroom. Daddy will help you brush your teeth." Matteo then agreed and then went to run upstairs to the washroom.

Meanwhile, I went to take off my jacket and went to put it in the closet. "Listen, how about you go relax in the bedroom? I will finish with him and then come help you with the babies. Then, we can come back down and have that glass of wine I promised." Gabby smiled and agreed with me. "Sure thing. I am going to change them though. That doesn't take long." I then nodded as I went to set the car seats down near the door and then set the diaper bag down too. Taking off my coat, I smiled at Gabby. "Want me to take one of them upstairs?"

Gabby nodded. "Can you take Ella?" I smiled and nodded. "Our room?" Gabby then agreed as she went to take off her coat before looking at me as I went to stand in front of her. Kissing me softly, I smiled as we held each other close. "30 minutes, the kids will be asleep and then we are back down here to have some time together. Fireplace date with some glasses of wine." Gabby agreed and smiled as we both grabbed one of the babies and made our way upstairs together so that we could put the kids to bed and get changed into something comfortable.
