Chapter 200

Matt's POV: After making my way back downstairs, I looked at my phone because I had just texted Severide about cancelling our plans. He understood and told us to just rest today. We would do it tomorrow instead. Once that was taken care of, I walked back into the living room to see my mom and Matteo cuddling on the couch while she read to him. "Oh, now that's something I need to take a picture of." Grabbing my phone. I smiled as I went to take a picture of them. My mom then looked up at me. "Matt, I wasn't even looking or smiling at the Camera."

I laughed when she said that. "Mom, it's a known fact that pictures taken by surprise are the best. At least when they are not in the washroom." Both my mom and sister were confused when I said that. "Peeping tom at the firehouse. Took pictures of Gabby in the shower naked." They both stared at me and were shocked. "Woah." I nodded and sighed. "Let's just say that the man he met a little bit earlier was not the same as the guy who slammed him into the wall. Went all protective husband on him. Slammed him into the wall and everything. Fired right away."

My mom nodded and agreed. "Good, the CFD doesn't need those type of people working for them." I agreed and nodded. "Oh the same thing goes for her ex-boyfriend. He was back at our firehouse a couple years ago. He rapped her because he wasn't happy that we were back together. Said that they could raise Matteo together. She was traumatized. I am just glad she is okay with being at the firehouse. A lot of horrible memories here. But, the ones we are making with the kids there are definitely outweighing them more and more each day."

Christie smiled. "How often do you take them to the firehouse?" I laughed. "We take them every time we have a shift. I want them to be used to being at the firehouse. Plus, it's nice having them there. I want to be in their lives as much as possible. And if that means we have to take them to the firehouse, then so be it. I got permission from the higher ups and they are happy that I am taking them to the firehouse. Honestly, so are my friends. They love them and are completely different people when they are there. It's adorable to see how taken they are by them."

My mom smiled when I said that when Violet looked at her mom. "Hey mom, I have work today remember so...I need to head home." I then turned to look at her. "Where are you working anyways Violet?" Violet smiled. "I am working at Molly's. While you were gone, I spoke to your friends and they were glad to hire me. I used your name if that's okay?" I laughed and nodded. "Violet, go ahead and do that there. Believe me, I would've just called and told them you are hired anyways. So them doing it was the right thing. You were guaranteed a job."

Violet nodded and agreed. "I think all of your nieces and nephews are working there." I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, my niece Eva is going to the University of Notre Dame Law School in the fall." My sister was shocked when I said that. "Woah, you guys must be proud!" I nodded and agreed. "We are. It's amazing to have seen her get in. She is going to do her first term here in Chicago though. They have a campus downtown. But listen, if you need to go...I understand." My mom then looked at me. "I might go then too Matt. You go rest with your family."

I smiled and agreed as I got up. "Here, then let me take you guys to the door. Then I'll clean up. Matteo, come say goodbye to everybody." Matteo then nodded as he got up before going to hug his grandma. "Bye grandma." She smiled as she went to hug him. "Bye auntie C." Christie smiled as she hugged him when he went to hug Violet. He then ran away to his room. "Go play with your toys. Daddy will be right up to get you changed for a nap." Matteo then nodded and agreed as he went upstairs. Meanwhile, I looked at my family and smiled as I went to hug them all. "I am so glad that you guys could come. We should do this again."

They all nodded and smiled. "Enjoy the dinner with Gabby." I laughed when I thought about the gift my mom gave me for my birthday. "I will love that dinner. A night with my gorgeous wife." We all smiled and agreed with I said that before I went to lead them outside. Once they were all gone, I went to lock up and just quickly cleaned the living room before heading upstairs to put Matteo down for a nap before going to join Gabby in our bedroom.
