Matt's POV: After resting in bed with Gabby for a while, I sighed as I was woken up by the sound of someone ringing the doorbell. With Gabby still all cuddled up to me, I felt bad that I was going to have to wake her up to leave but...I knew that I had to get the door. Gently kissing her forehead, I whispered to Gabby. "Hey, I have to get the door. The doorbell just rang." Gabby nodded and agreed as she let me go. "Just come back right after. Check on the kids." I agreed and then smiled as I left a kiss on her forehead before going to leave bed.
Walking out of the bedroom, I went downstairs to check what was at the door. Quickly walking up, I went to look in the window see that there was a delivery man at the door. Opening it, I looked at him. "Delivery for a Matthew Casey?" I then nodded. "Can I know who it's from?" The delivery guy went to check and read it for me. "The Chicago Fire Department. Addressed to Chief Matthew Casey, Firehouse 51." I nodded and agreed. "That would be me." He then gave me his tablet to sign for the package. "Thanks for your service."
I smiled when he said that and then let him go. Picking up the package and locking the door, I then looked at Gabby as I watched her come downstairs. "What are you doing up?" Gabby then sighed. "I am coming to refill my water bottle. Need to hydrate before I have to do some pumping. What's in the package?" I then shrugged. "Not sure yet." I then went to walk away to carry it into the dinning room. Setting the box down, I smiled as I went to walk over to the kitchen so that I could get my box cutter in the drawer.
Gabby then walked up to it and looked at it. "Seems pretty light." I nodded and agreed when I walked back to the dining room. "Yeah." Grabbing the box, I then went to cut it open to see what was in there. Opening it up, I looked in and saw it was a jacket. Going to grab it, I took it out and looked at it. "Wow, this is my new jacket." Gabby was confused when I said that. "Did you order yourself a new jacket?" I then shook my head and went to turn it around. "It's something that headquarters ordered for me I guess. Just came today."
Gabby then looked at it and smiled. "It's your chief's jacket. Did you see what it says on the front?" I then went to look at it and was shocked. Setting it down on the table, I went to run my fingers on the new lettering on the jacket. It said Chief Matthew Casey, Firehouse 51. Attached was my new name badge which said the same thing. Tearing up a bit, I felt Gabby move to rub my back. "You okay or is it still emotional?" I sighed and turned to look at her before wrapping my arms around her. "It's still hard. Yet, it's time I guess."
Gabby nodded and agreed with me as she held me close. "You're right Matt...it is time. You are chief now and people need to know that." I smiled and agreed with her before bending back. Kissing her softly, I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her before kissing her softly. "I am going to hang it up by the door. Gabby then followed me and smiled. "Are we heading back to bed or are we going to stay down here for a while?" I then sighed and looked at her. "I think I need a bit of time. Is that okay? I am going to go over my notes."
Gabby looked at me and agreed, moving to kiss me softly as she wrapped her arms around my shoulders. "I love you Matt and if you need me, just come talk to me." I nodded and agreed as I let her go. "Actually, I am coming back to bed. Today is a family day after all." Gabby smiled when I said that before grabbing my hand and intertwined our fingers to bring me back to bed. "Want to bring all of the kids upstairs with us?" I then bit my lip. "Let's bring Ella and Gabriel. Matteo can come upstairs alone." Gabby nodded and agreed with me.
Making our way up to the second floor, I smiled as we went to get Ella and Gabriel from their nurseries before taking them upstairs with us.
