The moment Sesshomaru stepped onto the sacred soil of Mount Hakurei, the air itself seemed to resist him.

Yet he did not stop.

His silver hair flowed behind him as he strode forward, his golden eyes fixed on the direction where he could clearly sense the foul presence of Naraku.

Sesshomaru clicked his tongue softly.

How ironic.

The “purest land,” they say…

His sharp gaze swept across the mountain.

From the sky to the very ground beneath his feet, the sacred land was suffocating beneath Naraku’s poisonous miasma.

The corruption clung to the air like rot.

“L-Lord Sesshomaru~~ w-wait for me~!”

Behind him, Jaken staggered helplessly.

The small demon swayed from side to side as if he had drunk an entire barrel of sake. His face had turned bright red, his legs trembling violently beneath him.

Demons were not meant to walk the holy grounds of Mount Hakurei.

Even the outer edges of the mountain rejected their presence.

They had not yet reached the sacred barrier, yet Jaken already looked as though he might collapse.

Sesshomaru did not turn around.

The Lord of the West stepped forward without hesitation.

The moment he crossed into the barrier, sparks of spiritual energy erupted around him.

The barrier had sensed him.

A powerful demon had entered its domain.

Yet Sesshomaru continued walking as though it were nothing more than a breeze brushing against his skin.

“Quit your whining, Jaken,” he said coldly.

“Move.”

“H-Huhuhu…!” Jaken whimpered pitifully as he forced his trembling legs forward.

“Easy for you to say, my lord…” he muttered under his breath. “You are so powerful that this sacred barrier cannot even harm—”

“Jaken.”

“YES MY LORD!!”

Jaken nearly jumped out of his skin.

Fear alone sent a sudden surge of strength through his tiny body. He dashed forward in panic, momentarily forgetting the crushing spiritual pressure around him.

“If this place is truly sacred…” Jaken panted as he ran, “how is it that Naraku can remain here? Let alone within the barrier itself?”

Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed.

“That…”

His voice was calm. Quiet.

But cold as steel.

“…is something we will soon discover.”

They continued deeper into the corrupted mountain.

The foul scent of Naraku’s presence grew stronger with every step.

Until finally—

They found him.

Naraku stood ahead of them, his back turned.
