(Flashback)
Third Person POV
The air reeked of rot and poison.
Miasma churned beneath them like a dark river, swallowing the ground itself. The two priestesses fell together, their bodies battered and pierced with wounds that bled both blood and sacred light.
Kiara could barely breathe.
Each inhale burned.
Yet her fingers still moved.
With trembling hands, she lifted them into the air, forming the last spell she could muster. At the same time, her other hand searched blindly until it found Kikyo’s.
Their fingers intertwined.
A faint smile touched Kiara’s lips despite the pain.
“Forgive me…” she whispered.
Light bloomed around them—soft at first, then brilliant. A sphere of pale radiance wrapped around their dying forms, shielding them from the rising poison.
When the light faded, the two priestesses were gone.
In their place stood a small girl.
Kiara’s fading consciousness lingered just long enough to see it.
Slowly, with great effort, she reached into her robes and drew out the Shikon Jewel. Even in the darkness, it pulsed with a dangerous, seductive glow.
“Come forth,” she murmured.
A shikigami materialized before her—silent, obedient, born from the last threads of her spiritual power.
Kiara placed the jewel into its waiting hands.
Below them, the miasma river rose closer, eager to consume everything.
Her strength was almost gone.
But her voice remained.
“Go,” she commanded weakly.
The shikigami hesitated.
Kiara forced her fading eyes open.
“My heart will guide your path,” she whispered. “Within that jewel lies Midoriko’s soul… and the fate of countless lives.”
The poison crept higher, touching her skin.
Still she continued.
“Deliver it… to my own flesh and blood.”
Her voice trembled now, yet it carried an unwavering resolve.
“To my other half as well. In their hands… and in the company that walks beside them… the jewel shall be protected.”
The miasma finally reached them.
Kiara’s final words echoed into the darkness.
“Do not fail me.”
The shikigami bowed.
“Yes… my lady.”
Its form folded inward, compressing into a sphere of light before shooting into the sky—vanishing in the direction her heart commanded.
Behind it, the poisonous river swallowed everything.
And silence returned.
