The air grew heavy as demonic energy rolled from him in suffocating waves. Though he no longer wielded Tokijin, the aura surrounding him left no doubt as to why he was feared throughout the lands.
"Yikes."
"He shouldn't have said that."
"He's pissed."
Nervous murmurs spread among the spectators.
Moryomaru merely smirked and drew his sword.
The arrogance in his posture was almost laughable.
Sesshomaru regarded him with cold indifference.
"Your arrogance exceeds your ability."
Moryomaru's grin widened.
"A demon without a sword has no right to stand before me. You should-"
"Rrroooar!"
The insult died in his throat.
Silence descended upon the battlefield.
Every eye turned toward the source of the interruption.
Standing beside Jaken was Kouta. The young pup puffed out his chest proudly.
"Ror!"
The second attempt lacked much of the intimidation he had intended.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
"..."
"..."
"..."
Inuyasha snorted.
"Keh. That's supposed to be a roar?"
Shippo laughed.
"It's adorable."
Kouta blinked.
His confidence immediately crumbled as he realized everyone was staring at him.
His ears flattened.
Slowly, he shuffled behind Jaken's robes.
"Young Master," Jaken said nervously, "perhaps this is not the best place for a demonstration."
Without hesitation, Kouta grabbed onto the little imp's sleeve.
To Kouta, Jaken was practically a second caretaker.
Moryomaru's gaze shifted toward the pup.
"I see."
His smile grew wider.
"So the great Sesshomaru has produced an heir."
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Sesshomaru did not speak.
He simply stepped forward, placing himself between Moryomaru and Kouta.
Golden eyes stared at the hanyou construct without emotion.
Yet the killing intent radiating from him was enough to make even Moryomaru's smile falter.
Then it returned.
"Have I struck a nerve?"
Sesshomaru vanished.
The ground shattered beneath his feet.
Moryomaru barely managed to react before a clawed hand slammed into his chest.
The impact launched him across the battlefield, tearing through trees and stone alike.
A deafening crash echoed through Mount Hakurei.
And thus, the battle truly began.
"Inuyasha, shouldn't you help him?" Kagome asked.
Inuyasha folded his arms as he watched the clash.
"I will."
His eyes remained fixed on Sesshomaru.
"But not yet."
Moryomaru recovered quickly and lunged forward, targeting Sesshomaru's injured side.
Sesshomaru twisted away with effortless grace.
A powerful sweep of his tail struck Moryomaru and sent him crashing into the ground once more.
Moryomaru immediately retreated.
Sesshomaru's poison made close combat dangerous. One mistake would be enough to melt flesh from bone.
"I know Lord Sesshomaru can do it!" Jaken shouted from the sidelines.
Rin nodded enthusiastically.
Kouta barked in agreement.
"Ror!"
As though fate had decided to mock them, countless tentacles suddenly erupted from the ground.
They shot toward Sesshomaru from every direction.
Before anyone could warn him, the tentacles wrapped around his body.
The earth trembled.
A low, dangerous growl escaped Sesshomaru.
The tentacles began to smoke as poison spread across their surfaces.
Still, more continued to emerge.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome cried.
"Tch."
Inuyasha drew Tessaiga.
"WIND SCAR!"
A massive wave of demonic energy tore through the battlefield, shredding the tentacles before they could tighten their hold.
The attack continued toward Moryomaru, forcing him to leap away.
For a brief moment, silence returned.
Then a small voice broke through it.
"Papa?"
Kouta stared at Sesshomaru with wide eyes.
The concern in the pup's face was obvious.
Sesshomaru glanced toward his son.
Only for a moment.
A brief nod.
A silent assurance.
I am unharmed.
Then his attention returned to Moryomaru.
The battle was far from over.
