"Kagome, stay back. You've got a jewel shard with you," Inuyasha ordered as he charged at Moryomaru once more.
Kagome nodded.
Her gaze remained fixed on the battlefield.
Sesshomaru had freed himself from the restraints, and now Inuyasha stood before him, confronting Moryomaru head-on.
A faint irritation crossed Sesshomaru's features.
Protected by Inuyasha?
Ridiculous.
Poison crackled around his hand as the green whip formed instantly.
Moryomaru clicked his tongue.
"This damn bastard keeps hiding behind that armor!" Inuyasha growled. "Let out that damn Infant already!"
Moryomaru only laughed. His armored body endured attack after attack with little visible damage.
"WIND TUNNEL!" Miroku stepped forward.
A powerful current pulled toward Moryomaru.
Yet before the attack could fully take effect, Moryomaru dug his claws deep into the earth, anchoring himself.
"Ugh!" The monk gritted his teeth.
"Hiraikotsu!"
Sango's giant boomerang spun through the air and struck Moryomaru directly.
The impact echoed across the battlefield.
But when the dust settled, he remained standing.
"Hahaha!"
Moryomaru spread his arms mockingly.
"These pathetic weapons are useless against me."
"ADAMANT BARRAGE!"
Before he could continue laughing, countless diamond shards erupted toward him.
Moryomaru's eyes widened.
The attack struck before he could raise a defense.
Explosions echoed one after another.
"So that works," Inuyasha said with a grin.
The hanyou immediately pressed the advantage.
Again and again, he launched attacks.
Yet every time Moryomaru seemed cornered, he found a way to escape.
"Tch."
Inuyasha lowered Tessaiga.
"Why does everyone keep escaping?"
As if determined to prove his point, Moryomaru vanished into the distance.
Silence followed.
Everyone stared at the empty space he had occupied moments before.
Then collectively sighed.
Relief.
Frustration.
Disappointment.
The feeling was familiar by now.
Their enemies always escaped.
And they still had no idea where they were hiding.
"Is it over, Papa?"
Kouta looked up hopefully.
His tail swayed behind him.
Sesshomaru glanced down.
The pup stared back with wide golden eyes.
Without a word, Sesshomaru lifted Kouta into his arms.
That alone was answer enough.
Kouta immediately relaxed.
"We should continue searching for Lady Kiara, my lord," Jaken said.
Sesshomaru turned.
"Come."
One word.
Nothing more was needed.
Rin quickly hurried after him.
Jaken followed close behind.
Sesshomaru walked ahead, Kouta resting comfortably against his shoulder.
"Oi!"
Inuyasha pointed at his brother.
"At least wait for us. I helped you, remember?"
No response.
Sesshomaru continued walking.
"Incredible."
Inuyasha threw his hands into the air.
"Does anyone even listen to me?"
"Not really," Shippo answered.
"Shut up!"
Kagome laughed softly as they followed behind.
For the moment, the battle was over.
Their search for Kiara would continue.
