Chapter 21:
---
Sharing a few hours of nap time just cuddling with Anzu, Ray's spirits got significantly raised. While he sleeps with the woman he only knew for, what's essentially four days, he needed someone to hold him. To give him emotional support. And while he does hate her for basically being too forward, and threatening him—he felt his relationship ever so slightly growing with this stumpy woman. He is too shy to ask his comrades to do it, and he damn well knows Andrew is all for that, but he has good reasons not to.
It was fortunate that no scandal came out of their snuggling session, even so when Ray got out of his office, along with Anzu, in...the late afternoon.
They had to go their separate ways, with Anzu insisting she'll go back to the school on foot. She gives Ray a peck on the cheek as a goodbye, and this time, he doesn't mind it.
Exiting the office, it looked like he died and went into military heaven. It seems Thomas's workers were long gone, and left, but the construction of it all was complete, and the base never looked more beautiful.
The base is also empty, but after a quick look around and investigation, apparently all of the men are sleeping in their bunks...tired from all of the lifting and constructing. He's glad no one got hurt, but being the only guy in the compound, he sort of felt lonely.
He goes to find his troop - let alone one, but he only came across Matthew, who's wearing his bandaged jacket as he sits on a lawn chair, looking at the newly built airfield. Ray takes a seat next to him, and the two shared a soda.
---
Ray: "What happened here?"
Matthew: "You were gone for a while, sir; Audie had to take over for now. After the workers left not too long before, Audie understands that these men are tired beyond comprehension. We sent them to bed until they're able to regain their energy. Tomorrow will training start."
Ray: "Tomorrow, huh? I can live with that. What time is it?"
Matthew: "Six o'clock, sir."
Ray: "Six o'clock?!"
Matthew: "What were you doing, Ray? You were gone for so long. Sure, a few hours at best, but kinda unusual, don't you think?"
Ray: "I... I was... Look, it's not important. Where's the rest?"
Matthew: "Hanging out with their women-especially Andrew. I was just waiting for you to come by. Now that you're here, best I go to Miho. Can't keep a girl waiting."
Ray: "Right; have fun, Isaac."
*He folds his lawn chair, sips his soda, and perfectly throws it inside a trash can. He then shoots Ray a sly smile.*
Matthew: "You know I will, Ray."
---
At least Ray can sleep well at night knowing Audie is considerate. As Matthew waves goodbye at Ray as he walks down the path, Ray also contemplates and look into his archives in his mind-trying to remember something. That's when something hits him—he asked Yukari to have him scheduled for a haircut!
