Chapter 25:

---

{Dealing with the last of the defenders prove challenging, if not difficult as they actually fought to the last man. None of them retreated, and refused to back down even if many of them had already died}

They took down many of the St. Gloriana attack force, and in a fit of good sportsmanship, the bodies of the Ooarai defenders were carried to a more safer and secluded spot, to prevent them getting stampeded or rolled over by tanks.

When the heat had died down, they took a review of their losses, and they were horrified at the result. They lost two tanks in that siege, and almost half of their attack force had been decimated. On the bright side, none of them fell off the ridge or the cliffs...from both sides to be exact.

As the men were all cleaning the newly conquered camp up, Michael seems to have noticed something's wrong...

Where's Rachel?

---

Michael: "Rachel!... Rachel!"

Vince: "Oi, mate, what's happenin'?"

Michael: "Have you seen your cousin, Vince? I... I can't find her anywhere?"

Vince: "That's what I'm doing myself too, General."

Michael: "She... She couldn't have died. Rachel's too stubborn to die."

Vince: "We don't actually die too."

Michael: "I know! But I'm worried of what happened to her!"

*A large well-built feller, with a slouch hat, and a digger uniform went beside Michael, and pointed something out. He's Aaron, the strongest scout.*

Aaron: "Is that her?" <He says in a Cockney accent>

---

When Michael jerked his head towards two men carrying a body of a female highlander, Michael immediately pushed through Aaron and Vince, and rushes over to what he hopes it's not Rachel...

Much to his horror, it is indeed her. He barks orders at the soldiers to out her down gently, and so they did.

He kneels over her, and mourned. He knows she's not dead, but without her presence in the battlefield he felt a bit vulnerable. Vince and Aaron went beside Michael's side, and while comforting him does felt tempting, they decided that he should need space.

Suddenly, in a fit of denial-induced rage, he started to yell for a medic.

---

Michael: "Get a medic! Woman down!"

Vince: "But... Benji is—"

Michael: "Think of something!"

*Knowing that convincing him would go in vain, Aaron and Vince then search for a medic. When they returned a few seconds after, and they reported there is no medic in their team, Michael lifts Rachel up, and cradled her in his arms.*
