Chapter 33:
---
Yukari forgot to detail what her plan was to Ray the next day, probably because she was too caught up with the thought that she's sleeping with the General that the positive thoughts overwhelmed her practical thinking.
The St. Glory army stayed for another day, but this time, it was Ooarai's turn to train them.
Their training method is not the best, but it is efficient, because to make them get used to fighting in forest or mountainous regions...they forced them to fight, because experience speaks better than training.
This would also be Ooarai's last time wearing their guerrilla fighter uniforms, so they have to make the best of it, by acting as no good guerrillas. Ray sent the St. Glory army, deep into the woods, and their objective was to make it back to the obstacle course, while enduring wave upon wave of guerrilla fighters.
They're not to wear the numb shock bracelets, since they can't really afford to send in medics to revive them, so essentially this is more of a desensitisation ritual than a training session.
The marines would fight up in the mountains, while the army would fight in the forests. Their objective is to make sure the St. Glory army doesn't make it to the obstacle course, and make sure they're not seen. They're forbidden to engage in hand-to-hand combat, and when they felt like their enemies will do it themselves, they're ordered to retreat and hide, and stalk them afterwards.
It's a pretty brutal training method, and it's a guarantee the St. Glory army got out of the forests and mountains with acute PTSD. Fighting an invisible enemy, while shouting, "Glory to the GLA!" Whilst firing rockets and lobbing grenades sure takes a toll into your mental health.
But after they succeeded, they found themselves either more afraid to go into forests, or more used to facing danger in there...or perhaps both?
The more pompous and rich officers called the Ooarai army a bunch of savages, to which they...are... But not anymore after.
After putting them through that rigorous trial of fire and paint, they then proceed to give them tips on how to survive in the wilderness, alone, and how to create traps, establish hidden bases, how to make good camouflage, and how to fight dirty. All of it were stock guerrilla tactics, but the St. Glory army were glad to be enlightened on how to be savage.
Most specifically, the Scottish commandos were more pumped up when it comes to trainings like these, especially Rachel. She later remarked that the Ooarai schmucks know how to party like the Vietcong.
Ray is unsure whether to take that as an insult or a compliment.
After a view more hours of training, the St. Glory army unfortunately had to leave. By high demand, and because they wish to prevent a scandal coming out of this. Either it would get them tried by the Federation, or other schools might be inspired to do the same, which would be unfair to lesser-known hedge carriers.
The farewell ceremony was quick and deliberate, but Michael, and Pekoe were saddened that this wouldn't go on for long. Both schools promise to fight each other to their upmost abilities when they face each other in the battlefield, however, and even General Derby Harrington, who got his ass handed to him by Freddy, several times, made a condescending yet powerful speech of how they're the most skilful of savages they've ever seen, and are respectable opponents, despite their 'convoluted' methods.
He...can't really try being nice, does he?
After the landing craft ships have departed, and soon the St. Gloriana carrier, and its battleships sail away, it left Ray and his army alone with the empty military base, and a patched forest.
