"Yes, I have 40 children in my home—28 girls and 12 boys," Kahini replied to the person on the other end of the call, standing on the balcony.
There was a brief pause before she continued, her tone professional but kind. "Of course, you can visit, but if you're bringing anything, it has to be approved by me or my assistant."
She listened for a moment longer, then made a suggestion, her voice softer but still formal. "How about we have a small Skype meeting instead? I'm in Mumbai currently." As she spoke, a bright grin spread across her face, her eyes sparkling as she sensed someone approaching from behind. The misty fragrance was all she needed to know who it was.
"Saturday sounds good," she continued, her voice maintaining its business-like tone despite the warmth of the gaze she felt on her back.
"Sure, I'll ask my assistant to send you an email to confirm the time." As she hung up, she slowly turned to face the presence behind her, her ocean eyes instantly locking with the singer's gaze, filled with admiration.
Kahini smiled, her expression lighting up even more as her eyes met Sanam's. Sanam, leaning back against the wall, couldn't tear her eyes away. She was lost in Kahini's heavenly gaze, words unspoken passing between them like a secret language. In the quiet night, their smiles held a thousand emotions, more powerful than anything spoken aloud.
Something in Sanam shifted as she watched Kahini. She had seen many sides of her over the years, but tonight was different. This wasn't just the Kahini she knew—the loving mother, the loyal friend, the fierce protector. Tonight, she saw all of those pieces come together in a way that filled her heart to the brim. Her respect for Kahini growing deeper with every passing second.
Kahini shyly looked at Sanam's extended hand, the gesture filled with warmth and affection. It didn't take her more than a second to accept it. In a swift, natural movement, she found herself wrapped in Sanam's arms, their bodies fitting together like they always belonged this way. The connection sent a wave of warmth through her, sparking electricity where their skin touched.
Sanam's eyes never left Kahini's, and as her hand gently caressed her cheek, Kahini felt her breath catch. The singer's thumb traced a soft path over the same spot where Shirish had kissed her, and the warmth of Sanam's touch made her shiver. There was something more in Sanam's eyes now—something deeper, more heated.
"Do I need to worry about it?" Sanam's voice was soft, but the intensity in her gaze made it feel like a much heavier question. Her thumb stilled on Kahini's cheek, pressing lightly, as if marking her territory.
Kahini held Sanam's face in her palms, their eyes locking in an intense, shared gaze. "As long as he's 'he,' you don't." Her voice came out in a low murmur, not breaking eye contact for even a second. The air between them felt charged, thick with unsaid words and the fire of emotions they both were feeling.
"And even if he was..." Kahini's gaze softening as she added with a teasing lilt, "He's not Mehrunissa." The love and sincerity in her voice reflected back in Sanam's eyes, and a small, affectionate smile tugged at Sanam's lips.
A smile curled on Sanam's lips, soft and gentle, and as Kahini's eyes shifted to Sanam's lips, the singer's heart raced.
Kahini's breath caught in her throat as the space between them began to close. The warmth of Sanam's breath tickled her skin, and her pulse quickened. Sanam's hand found its place on the back of her neck, pulling her closer until their foreheads were nearly touching.
"Did I tell you how breathtakingly hot you look today?" Kahini's voice was a low, husky murmur, her lips brushing against Sanam's ear in a way that made her head spin.
