-Next Day-

I didn't have school today, so I basically had a free day except for my daily chores. That usually included making my bed, and cleaning up my room. My room wasn't usually dirty, but I had gotten my art supplies out yesterday, so it was a little messy. After I did that I had to put away my clothes that someone brought for me. Finally when that was done I went over to the vent. I opened it and got out the rule book. After I brought it to my desk and sat down at my desk. It was big and probably going to take a lot time to read. I read the full title first. 'Nanbaka Rule Book (for guards and staff)', guards? Like castle knights or something like police? After I read the title I opened to the first page. By that I mean wear the information I want is. Not the index and all that. Most of what I read on the first page was going a role of a guard or a staff member. It was extremely boring, but some of it seemed important.

Over the next month I read the rule book. Many of the things in here I had to look up in my dictionary. I liked learning about the new things. I had to be careful about it though. I didn't want to be caught by anyone. It would be bad for me because I would be in big trouble. As I read through it I found things that worried me though. For example it said that all people in the prison not including inmates should be trained in hand to hand combat and how to use a weapon of some sort. I was worried about if I need this training. Mommy said we live on the island of Nanbaka, also that we live in a well guarded place. Kinda like a prison. I liked it here, so if we really were in Nanbaka Prison then shouldn't I be doing training?

-time skip to when she is 14 (It is still Marzil's POV)-

I woke up at my usual time and got dressed. After I started to do my morning workout routine. It consists of push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, squats, and a flexible routine that changes depending on the day. After that I got a shower and did my hair in a braid. I tended to change my hair depending on the day of week. Today was Tuesday, so I did a braid. I left my room to go get something to eat. When I entered the staff cafeteria the first thing I heard was, "You idiot Monkey!" I sighed and smiled a little. Looks like Papa and Lemur are arguing again. I got my food and went to go find a place to sit. I easily found where most of the supervisors had found a place to sit. I sat on the end by Kenshirou. "Morning, everyone.", I said as I sat down. "Good morning Marzil.", Kiji said. "Good Morning." ,Kenshirou said in his normal calm tone. Papa and Lemur were to busy arguing to say anything or even notice me. "Should I ask about what they are arguing about this time?" "It is about the new years tournament that is coming up.", Kiji said after setting down his mirror. I sighed thinking about the tournament. I was never allowed to go, but I always heard about it. I wasn't even allowed to watch it. I know some people are going to say just be a rebellious kid and go anyway. It isn't that easy. They have people that specifically watch for me to try and get by. Even at the vents. I've tried to get by, but never can. "Marzil, Marzil!" I was snapped out of my though by Kiji snapping in front of my face and saying my name. "Yes? Sorry, I was lost in thought." He shook his head, "You got called down to your mother's office." I nodded said by and took my tray dumping it before I left.

As I walked to my mother's office I thought about what she might need or want to talk about. "She is probably going to give me a lecture on how I can't go to the tournament.", I whispered to myself. Once I got there I nocked on the door. I heard a serious come in from the other side. I opened the door and walked in. She was sitting behind her desk with a few papers on the desk. Everyone was always so scared of talking to her, well except Mitsuru. I on the other hand was never really nervous. She looked up from the papers as I walked up to her desk. "You needed me mother?" She nodded sitting back in her desk a little. "I wanted to talk to you about something." I sighed "If it's about the New Year's tournament I already know that I'm not supposed to go. I don't really have any plans to try and get in this year." She smiled and chuckled slightly. "Though at somepoint I do want to talk to you about that, it is not that." I was confused now. "Then what did you want to talk about?" She stood up walking over to me. "Marzil you are smart, strong, beautiful girl, and have impressed everyone you have met. I believe you are now old enough and mature enough know something about this place." I looked at her  curious about what she wanted to tell me. I nodded for her to continue. "Marzil this place that you live in and have grown up in is a prison. It is known as Nanbaka Prison and I am the Warden of this place." She said while looking at me sternly. This wasn't a shock to me as I had already figured that out, but I knew I would have to act like it. I stared at her for a minute. "A... a prison?" I asked in a quiet voice. She nodded still trying to keep her straight face, but you could tell she was nervous about my reaction. "I-I don't know what to think about that..." "I think you can probably tell that this place is safe, so please don't fear being here." She said quickly. "I won't mother. I trust you, but may I ask why I'm here? I was raised her my entire life, why was I never sent to someplace different?" She sighed, "You know that you are adopted." I nodded, that was something that I found out by accident from Mitsuru opening is big mouth.

"Well I would like to tell you how you came here and why you never left." I nodded slowly. "When you first came here you where so little. Only about two, but also you were weak. You had been in a ship wreck. You washed up on the shore. Kiji was the first to see you. After, he reported that it looked like someone had washed a shore that looked like a child. I sent Mitsuru and a small team of guards to get you. Everyone who saw you there thought you died, but then Mitsuru picked you up and realized you where alive. He rushed you to the infirmary. You survived better then anyone expected. After that we had to figure out what to do with you. I talked to the mainland, they wanted you back to the mainland as soon as possible, but Okina said that you were to frail and week to make the trip. We were supposed to keep you here till then, but I couldn't help, but to fall for your cuteness. I wanted to adopt you and keep you here. The mainland and I agree that if you could stay alive and unhurt that you could stay here. Everyone worked to keep you safe, no matter how much trouble you caused. You seemed to make it especially hard." She chuckled and I giggled at the statement. "Though we made it through and non of us regret keeping you here. You have made life different and even to me fun. I go as far to say that you even made your father soft." We both laughed and smiled. After we calmed down she continued, "But I do want you to know that if you want to go back to the mainland I'm fine with that. You are old enough to make that decision." I smiled and giggled, "Why would I want to leave?" She smiled, like an actual happy smile. "If that is what you want. Now about your schooling and job." "My schooling and job?" She nodded go back over to her desk and sitting down.
