hi guys, sorry i've been so bad about updating! i've had no motivation to write and i feel like this story is just getting really bad. if it's super boring to read then pls tell me lol

the previous week at school passed surprisingly fast. everyone was talking about prom and their dates, meanwhile i couldn't give two shits. today was saturday and prom was tonight, and i was planning on getting ready at rhi's house later. but for now, i was swimming in gwens pool. i swam along the bottom of the pool, using my arms to keep myself from floating
up. i released some of the breath i was holding, through my nostrils, sending air bubbles to the surface. i laid limply at the bottom of the pool, letting my limbs float about. i watched the way the water reflected off the surface and made light on the bottom of the pool. eventually my lungs ran out of air and i pushed myself back to the surface. i flopped my wet hair out of my face and spotted gwen on the other end of the pool with her feet dangling in the water.

"should you really be swimming when you have to get ready for prom in a few hours?" she asked.

"i don't see why not" i said as i swam over to her. "what are you wearing tonight?"

"just a skirt and a blouse, it's not my prom" she reminded me with a smile. i rolled my eyes and kept swimming.

gwens pov

i was sitting by the pool, just watching sara swim laps. i'm still not sure how i got so lucky. she's the most gorgeous woman i've ever seen. she's compassionate, goofy, an old soul, and everything i could ever want in a girl. i will never stop mentioning how head over heels in love with her i am. our situation is far from perfect, but we somehow make it work. i just hope we'll be able to keep the secret for the rest of this year and the entirety of next year.

sara's pov

i reluctantly left gwens, and now i was at rhiannon's house, getting my makeup done. she wasn't letting me look in the mirror so i had no clue what kind of look she was doing. 'stand back' by stevie nicks played softly on a speaker while i aimlessly scrolled through pinterest.

"are you almost done?" i whined, flopping my head down dramatically. rhi lightly smacked the back of my head, quickly making me sit up straight.

"no, and i never will be if you don't stop moving" she groaned as she held my chin still and coated my lashes in mascara. after a few more minutes, she was done and allowed me to look in the mirror. i gasped when i saw myself in her huge vanity mirror. i looked unrecognizable. she had done a smokey eye with eyeliner that made me look way older, lots of subtle contour that made my cheekbones look sharp enough to cut someone with, and a light pink lip gloss that would match my dress. i squealed and hugged rhi tightly.

"it's perfect rhi, thank you so much! you seriously have a gift."

"yeah yeah i know, now move so i can do mine" she whined as she tried to push me off her. i giggled and went to flop down onto her bed. i pulled out my phone and saw that i had a text from gwen.

come to my house after prom. that was the whole message. i had a pretty good idea of what she had planned, and the demanding tone that accompanied the text sent shiver down my spine.

yes ma'am i quickly replied. i then got up to put on my dress. i stayed in the bathroom to curl my long brown hair while rhi badly sang along to some 2000's hits. i finally finished curling my thick head of hair and exited the bathroom to show my best friend the final product. once she saw me, she dropped the lipstick she was applying.

"that's a pretty good reaction" i giggled, slipping my heels on.

"you look like a fucking angel sara" she said with a smile. i smiled back and thanked her, then i just waited for her to be done.
