"Ballad. From Middle English, balade. Who knows what this word means?" Mr. Schue asks

"It's a male duck." Brit says as Rachel and Kurt raise their hands

"Kurt." Mr. Schue calls

"A ballad is a love song." Kurt says

"Sometimes, but they don't always express love.  Ballads are stories set to music—which is why they're the perfect storm of self-expression. Stories and music are the way we express feelings that we can't get out any other way. Okay, now, sectionals are in a few weeks and there's a new rule this year– we have to perform...a ballad." Mr. Schue explains

"Looks like my weekly letter to the Ohio Show Choir Committee finally paid off!" Rachel exclaims

"Okay. So here's our assignment for the week: I'm  going to pair you off, and I want you to pick a ballad to sing to your partner. Look them right in the eye, find the emotion you want to express, and make them feel it." Mr. Schue says

"I pick Quinn." Finn says

"No, no, no. Too easy. Your partners will be chosen by fate." Mr. Schue says

"Ooh!" We all say as Mr. Schue walks over and grabs a hat from the piano

"Ooh, yeah. I put all your names in this hat. Whoever you choose is your partner." Mr. Schue tells us

"I bet the duck's in the hat." Brit whispers

"But we have an uneven number of members." I state

"Um... I guess I'll just have to put my name in the hat too. Who's up first?" Mr. Schue says before Puck walks over and picks a name out of the hat

"Mercedes." Puck says

"All right." Mr. Schue says before Puck sits down and Artie rolls over to the hat before pulling out a nam

"Quinn." Artie says before Artie rolls over to his previous spot and Finn walks over to the hat before picking out a name

"Kurt" He says causing a few people to laugh

"Mr. Schue, I don't know if I can do this with another guy." Finn says

"The fates have spoken, Finn." Mr. Schue tells him before he sits back down beside Quinn and Tina walks over and pulls a name out of the hat

"Other Asian." She says before sitting back down and I get up and walk over to the hat before pulling a name out of the hat

"What's it say?" Mike asks

"It says...Dr. Suess." I say with a mischievous smile

"Come on, tell us!" Matt says

"It says...Matthew Rutherford." I say with a big smile as I walk over and sit back down between Mike and Matt before Matt pecks my lips and Santana walks over to the hat

"Brittany." Santana says with a big smile and Brit stands up and claps excitedly

"How fitting." Mr. Schue says

"Yay! No way." Brit says as she and Santana sit down

"Looks like I get you, Mr. Schue." Rachel says as she walks over to the hat

"Uh... you know what? Maybe we should just double up or something." Mr. Schue says uncomfortably

"The fates talked, Mr. Schue." Finn says causing all of us to laugh

"Would you mind clarifying what kinds of songs you want us to sing?" Artie asks

"Why don't you let Mr. Schuester and I demonstrate. Brad, "Endless Love" in B-flat, please. It's my favorite duet." Rachel says as I pull my phone out of my pocket

"I really don't think that's an appropriate song, Rachel." Mr. Schue says before I completely ignore them as I search for the perfect ballad to sing to Matt

Matt and I sang 'My boo' By Usher and Alicia Keys yesterday and we all decided we are gonna sing Finn and Quinn a ballad to show that we support them

"Open your eyes! I didn't tell you to close your eyes." Mercedes says as she and Kurt lead Finn into the choir room

"Is there a cake?" Finn asks

"No, there's no cake." Mercedes tells him

"Oh." Finn says in disappointment

"Be quiet and sit down." Mercedes instructs him before he sits down beside Quinn

"Hi, Quinn. Do you know what's going on?" Finn asks her

"Your fellow Glee Club members want to sing a song for you guys to let you know how they feel about you." Mr. Schue tells them

"What are you going to sing?" Finn asks

"Just listen. The song says everything." Rachel says
