Anna's POV:
I was in the prefects' bathroom, Chocolate darting around the marble floor while I played with the colorful bubbles drifting above the water. As I watched them float, I couldn't help thinking about George and felt like my chest was being squeezed.
I wandered over to the stained-glass window and started talking to the mermaid in the picture when she slowly turned her face toward me.
"Do you know why I like coming here?" I asked aloud-right as Moaning Myrtle shot up from the water. I shrieked, splashing backward.
"Hi Anna," she said in her usual shrill voice.
"Myrtle! You scared me," I gasped, my heart still racing. She let out her annoying little laugh and floated closer until she was hovering beside me. I sighed.
"Myrtle... have you ever liked someone who....well..belongs to someone else?" I asked. My voice wobbled more than I wanted it to.
"No," she replied dramatically, "but Olive Hornby used to tease me about my glasses before I died. Truly dreadful." She launched into another long-winded story, and I immediately regretted asking.
Before she could continue, the bathroom door creaked open. My head snapped toward it. A boy stepped inside, though I couldn't see his face. Chocolate sprinted toward him, trying to block his path.
"Well hello, little one. What are you doing in here?" he asked kindly, petting her. The voice was unmistakable-Cedric Diggory. I sank lower into the bubbles, hoping to disappear into the foam.
"Is someone in here with you?" Cedric asked the cat. Chocolate meowed loudly, betraying me.
"Um... Cedric? It's me. Anna," I finally said.
"Oh, Anna! Sorry, I didn't realize anyone was here," he apologized quickly.
"It's alright. Could you just wait a moment so I can get dressed?"
"Of course. I'll turn around," he said, even though he wasn't facing me anyway.
I slipped out of the pool, dried off, and pulled on my clothes.
"Okay, Cedric, you can look now," I said. He turned and walked over.
"I'm really sorry, Anna," he said again.
"No need to apologize. I was just leaving." I headed toward the door, but he called after me.
"Anna... you look upset. Is everything alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine," I lied-horribly. Even Myrtle snorted.
I tried to leave again.
"I'm sorry about your breakup," he added gently. I froze.
"My... breakup?" I repeated, stunned.
"Yes. You know, with one of the Weasley twins. I heard people talking."
I stared at him in disbelief.
"Wait-what? Me and George? We never dated!", I said firmly.
"George? Interesting!",Cedric said with a teasing smirk. "I never said which twin",
I felt my face heat up.
"This means only one thing. You like him and you're upset because he's with someone else now," he said more softly.
My eyes widened. He immediately looked embarrassed.
"I-I'm sorry, that was out of line."
"No," I sighed. "It's true. But you're not telling anyone, alright?"
"Of course not," he said earnestly. "I just thought you two were dating because, well... everyone's talking about it."
"What? Why?" I asked, confused.
