ANNA'S POV:

The Burrow materialised around me in a swirl of emerald flames. I stumbled out of the fireplace, brushing soot off my coat, careful not to drop the tin of warm cookies I’d baked for George, Fred. My heart hammered painfully against my ribs.

Then I saw him.

George Weasley sat slumped on the couch, elbows on his knees, eyes dull and hollow, so heartbreakingly unlike the boy who always lit up a room before stepping into it. The sight punched the breath from my lungs.
And all I could think was, 'I did that to him'.
A wave of self-loathing washed over me so sharp it almost hurt physically.

A small noise behind him, Chocolate scurrying, made him turn.

The moment his eyes found me, everything in him transformed.
His face lit with a joy so sudden, so radiant, that my chest tightened and my throat stung.
He shot up from the couch like he’d been electrocuted.

"Anna?", he breathed, staring as if I were a ghost he was terrified would vanish.

I set Chocolate down, offering him a soft, hesitant smile.

In two long strides he crossed the room, his green jumper (the one with the golden G) making him look impossibly handsome and impossibly George. A warm, fluttery feeling spread through me, unwilling and unstoppable.

Before I could say anything, he engulfed me in a tight, warm embrace, lifting me clean off the floor. I clung to him, cookies still crushed in one hand, my heart pounding like it was trying to escape.

"Anna, you came!", his voice trembled with happiness. He set me down gently, still holding my arms as if afraid I’d disappear.

"Are you real?", he whispered, eyes wide. "Or am I hallucinating again?".

"I’m here, Georgie". I said. The rueful smile that tugged at my lips hurt.
His didn’t, his grin reached his eyes.

He lifted a strand of my newly cut hair. "Your hair… you look gorgeous. It really suits you".

"Thank you, Georgie", heat flared across my cheeks.

He pulled me back into another chest-crushing hug.
"I’m so happy you’re here. So relieved".

Guilt stabbed me.
"I’m sorry, Georgie. I hurt you".

He didn’t hesitate.
"I don’t care anymore. You’re here everything’s fixed", his arms tightened protectively.

"Merry Christmas, Anna", he murmured as he finally let go.

"Merry Christmas, Georgie", I replied, smiling too wide for my face to handle.

The fireplace roared again Mum and Dad stepped out, dusting themselves off. George beamed at them.

"Merry Christmas, Mr and Mrs McXandra!".

Dad hugged him like a son. Mum followed with a warm embrace.

"Everyone, Anna’s here!", voices erupted in the house as soon as George shouted,

Footsteps thundered. Ginny and Bill barreled down the stairs, Mr and Mrs Weasley rushed from the kitchen. Mrs Weasley wrapped me in her trademark motherly hug.

"Oh, sweetheart, thank you for coming".

"I’m sorry, Mrs Weasley. I disappointed you".

"Oh no, darling, never", she soothed, patting my cheek.

Ginny hugged me next, pulling back to gape. "Anna, you cut your hair!".

"Do you not like it?". I blurted nervously.
