NARRATOR'S POV

Golden sunlight spilled across Anna McXandra’s face, warm and insistent, as though the morning itself were determined to wake her. Her eyes flew open, and for one breathless second, she forgot where she was.

Then it hit her.

Today.

With a delighted gasp, she practically launched herself out of bed, bare feet hitting the floor as excitement fizzed through her veins. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry awaited her. The name alone made her chest tighten with wonder.

She moved through the morning in a blur-shower, brushed hair, carefully chosen clothes, her hands trembling just a little as she double-checked everything. When she finally dragged her trunk downstairs, the familiar scent of breakfast and home wrapped around her like a final comfort.

Her parents were already there, smiling far too knowingly.

"Good morning, Mum. Morning, Dad", Anna said brightly, pressing kisses to their cheeks.

"Good morning, love", her mother replied, eyes shining.

Her father grinned over the rim of his mug. "All set, kiddo?".

"I think so", Anna said, sitting down at the table. "Very excited".
She hesitated, then added softly, "A bit nervous too".

Her mother reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "No need for nerves. You’ll do brilliantly at Hogwarts".

Anna smiled back, comforted, though her heart still fluttered like a caged bird.

Soon enough, they were on their way. King’s Cross bustled around them, ordinary people hurrying past without a clue that magic was about to unfold just beyond their sight. Her parents guided her through the barrier at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters and suddenly....

There it was.

The Hogwarts Express stood waiting, scarlet and magnificent, steam curling into the air like a living thing. Anna’s breath caught.
