Chapter 12/ Morality Compatibility

"You boys wanna enlighten me on what happened to you?"
Sunny asked as he helps Chan onto his horse- nobody wanting to answer that except for the eldest of them all
"In time, right now I'm more concerned with getting the boys further from the town"

"Fair enough"
And with a click of his tongue, his horse starts moving, Vincent doing the same except just giving the stallion a little kick

Their was no real rush and halfway through the ride, Denzel complained his shoulder was bouncing too much so Vincent decided to take it slow- Mikah being behind the two and having to hang on tightly so he wouldn't fall off of what little space he had.

"Mikah, you and Denzel were absolutely incredible, I told them to go back for you- honest I did, Calico was just way too scary so I couldn't exactly do much until Vincent woke up"
Chan explained but was waved off by the feline

"Hey don't worry, I'm just glad we're all okay....but it's concerning that he'd be so content with leaving us behind"

"Well, believe me Mikah, you nor anyone else here will EVER be left behind again and we will risk our necks to save one another, every time"
Vincent continued after a short pause
"we're a family now...I don't know what that means to you but with us- With me, it means we keep each other safe"
Vincent's voice was proud and passionate and it resonated with the group that listened to it

Chapter 12:
"Moral Compass"
January 22nd, 1906

The morning didn't quite get off on a calm start and while it all worked out in conclusion, they still had a few issues that needed to be addressed and nobody else knew what they were besides the tensed up chipmunk, Vincent Smith.

"Take a right, here, Sunny"
Chan shouts over the loud galloping of the two horses that rode side by side. The brunet turned his head to the right and pulled the lead in that direction, getting his horse to travel down the narrow trial with Vincent close behind.

The group soon come to a halt near the edge of the campsite and dismount all together. Denzel being helped by his brother, getting him off the tall animal- Mikah hopping off and landing on all fours briefly, dusting off his hands as he followed the Smith brothers into the camp.

Alex perks his head up from where he sat by the fire and smiled
"Hey! Looks like ya found em, that's fantastic and it didn't even take you guys all day"

The mouse nods as he tips his hat, pulling the strap of his shotgun off his back and holding it to his side
"We found them just a few miles back from which we came, Denzel was shot but Mikah made sure he pulled through"
Chan finished as he walks over to set the heavy weapon down in the stagecoach

Calico gazed over at the younger Smith and huffed while listening to Alex praise Mikah for his heroism, the feline smiling at the chipmunk- not knowing how to respond to the compliment except for a simple
"It was only appropriate"

The elder cat however simply stands up from where he sat on the log and seemed almost hesitant to spit his words out- unintentionally sounding spiteful as his words come out somewhat rude
"Hey! Denzel-"

Denzel eyes Calico- slightly startled by the tone but forced himself to keep his straight face
"Yeah?"

"What you did was undoubtedly stupid- you could've been killed. Fortunately you didn't and managed to save all of us in the process so....thank you"
The feline balled up his fist as if it was a struggle just to thank him but he gazed upon the other while the chipmunk nods with a tiny smirk
"Heh, don't worry about it- stupid decisions are my specialty after all"

Mikah rolled his eyes, slightly hoping Denzel didn't make a habit of making himself expendable. Though if he remembered correctly- he was the one that told the rodent they needed to defend the stagecoach but alas he didn't expect him to be the type to risk it all in doing so.
