Chapter 29:
Unrelenting Vengeance

"Yeah I killed them and Those bastards deserved it..."
Denzel glared with affirmation while Nissi could only look upon the baby she once held with pity and saddened that the child had to go through such difficult times.

Denzel's tone was one of pride as he spoke kindly about his gang even though he knew most of them to be just as ruthless as him; the faces of Vincent, Calico, and his own appeared in his mind, taunting him and making feel like he was doomed to a fate of being a bloodthirsty criminal.

"My family are good people-and I'm not letting anyone take them from me again"
Denzel said with not an inch of hesitation, Mikah already being aware of Denzel's unyielding loyalty-his newfound power has influenced and boosted his confidence although the feline empathized the chipmunk for being scared, deep down.

Nissi surprised them both with questions about the murders in Valentine, twenty two dead-including law men and civilians, no killer caught.

Denzel has shown Mikah just how it feels to have faith in the ones around you...that there is more to our nature than just ourselves; The cat would follow the rodent to hell if he asked him to.
Mikah zones out a moment as he watched Denzel's back, seeing him grab the full attention of the bounty hunter and the Sheriff.

Denzel only continues to prattle to try in reason with the Sheriff that they are not worth turning in-
"Vincent is the best of us all and I'm glad he's back to set everything straight and lead the brotherhood...he's always tried to steer me straight and keep my head in books"
The young rodent set his hat down on Nissi's desk, looking directly at her while reminiscing back to when it felt like they were really going to live a peaceful civil life
"Had you not left...do you think we woulda been happier?...safer even?"

Nissi's voice hitched when she tried to speak, clearing her throat while also clearly torn by the thought
"Honey it wasn't my fault..."

"Had I known...you two were even alive; it's crazy, my daddy once told me about every horrible case he's had to see.....and folks abandoning their children was one of many cases...I cried for days when he told me you two were probably dead from starvation or killed by bandits-"
She slouched back in her chair as she watched the expression change on Denzel's face
"That's news to me...so how common was it that kids were left to die like that...?"

"Can't even say...people get too good at leavin no tracks...frankly sweetheart you and Benny are one in million"
Denzel looked to the side as Nissi continued
"You owe it to your strength and your brother, That man, just like you, is a survivor that's worth fightin for..."

The matter seemed less tense but Soon the conversation takes a turn back to the murders, Denzel's words were captivating but even Mikah knew who the real Danger was and it is in Fact, Vincent, and his sickness runs far deeper than simply just murder but of course the feline stood quietly.

Mikah understands that Denzel was trying his best to paint the elder brother in a better light so not to ruin his relationship with Nissi and since Denz to her is this "sweet kid"-he might get sympathy from her.

"Vincent always talked about wanting a better life for you, I'm very sad that you fell down this low"
Nissi sighed as she became more relaxed since hearing Denzel point but still felt she had to eventually arrest him.
"Murder...geez sweetie I can't believe it...I didn't want to...how did it happen? They said the porcupine had his face caved in and his rib cage was torn open, blood everywhere..., another shot in the back as he tried to run-the law were gunned down chasing you?"
