"Izuku!" Y/n gasps and scoots closer to the boy.
His green eyes are squinted open against the harsh light that bounds into the room. He puts on a sweet smile as he attempts to sit up.
"Hey, take it easy." she whispers as she helps him up.
Once he gets into a comfortable position, he stretches out his bandaged arms towards his friend. Without a second thought, Y/n rushes forward and hugs the greenette. With a tight squeeze, she buries her face into his shoulder, her hands starting to tremble against his back.
"Y/n I'm so sorry!" Izuku cries out, his throat closing to prevent tears.
Y/n recognizes his pain immediately and pulls out of the hug. She tilts her head and observes him with kind, soft eyes.
He's awake. He's alive. He's going to be okay.
Izuku's lips tremble as he goes to say something else, but as he opens his mouth he bursts into tears. Y/n's heart aches as she sees him struggling to speak because of his overwhelming emotions. She leans closer and pulls him into another hug. His head rested right under her chin and his hands gripped onto her jacket tightly, knuckles almost turning white.
He gasps for air, crying harder in his friend's warm arms. Y/n rubs his back with one hand and uses the other to hold onto his head, frequently ruffling his curls with her fingers.
"Take your time Izuku..it's okay." Y/n soothes, smooshing her nose into his hair and closing her eyes.
He takes a couple minutes to calm down, hiccuping and sniffing through tears. Finally, he pulled back a little, but not wanting to leave her warmth completely. He looks up at her with glossy eyes, his bottom lip pouting a little.
"I'm really sorry, Y/n. I was doing better, I really was." he looks down at his lap. "And you were helping. You've been a wonderful friend and I'm so grateful for your hospitality." he smiles a bit and looks back up at Y/n.
She looks down at him and smiles softly, brushing some of his long, green bangs out of his eyes. His voice starts to crack as he continues.
"W-when I was...dying..."
Y/n swallows hard and looks away to the window that reveals beautiful, sunny weather. She didn't want him to see her cry.
"I realized that I-I didn't want to go. I felt so much regret for leaving you a-and my mom." he reaches up and tilts Y/n's chin towards him so that they are looking directly into each other's eyes.
"I want to live. I want to be better." he says with determination.
Y/n couldn't hold it in anymore. She broke down. Tears flooded out of her eyes and she shook with rigid sobs. Izuku's eyes widen with concern, he's never seen her actually cry before. He's seen tears slip out of her eyes a couple times, but she never broke down in front of him like this. Even when he was in her arms yesterday he could barely see her, his vision was too distorted.
In an effort to comfort her, he gently uses his right hand to hold the back of her head, nudging her to bow. She easily complied and rested her forehead against his chest, wrapping her arms around his thin waist as he rubbed her back.
"I was so scared!" she weeped louder.
Izuku begins to cry again out of remorse and sorrow. He never wanted to hurt her like this, she deserved so much better, but he can't go back in time and stop himself.
"I thought I was gonna lose you forever Izu. I can't lose you!" she holds on to him tighter, crying even harder.
Izuku tightens the hug to the best of his ability.
