"here you go" billie gave Autumn favorite toy to her as we sat her down in daycare. the social worker who was with her at first still has to check up on her everyday for the past two weeks for this month to make sure she's living a healthy lifestyle. i spotted her in sitting down as i waved at her and smiled.
"okay , bye Autumn mommy has to go" i kissed her forehead. "mommies" billie added. "i have a surgery sorry Au" she gave her a nickname as she kissed her cheek. "Au really?" i asked. "yes" she laughed. "i like it .. au" i smiled.
today , she's 6 months. seems like forever ago when billie fell in love with her and so did i but it's only been two months. i walked out as my pager beeped to the E.R.
"hi" i said and got out my chart. Dr Carlson gave me a head nod for me to introduce the patient , the familiar patient , billie parents friend how could i forget. "Kermit Stanley , 46 year old male , diagnosed with lung cancer 4 years-" the middle aged man cut me off. "sorry to interrupt but i don't want any surgery" he said uncomfortably.
"what" Dr. Carlson , Jordan , and me said in unison. "i'm sorry its just , i don't want any surgery theres a chance i'll have a stroke and I'm just not ready for that yet. so no , no surgery" he said softly. "sir theres a very high chance of survival 97% to be exact , trust me you WANT this surgery" Jordan said.
"Dr Yale" Dr Carlson called out letting him know to shut up. "no thanks" Kermit said. "i'm sorry but do you know that other people don't get this high of a survival rate. and we come here to say lives so why did you come here ? to get an update? you-" Dr Carlson cut me off.
"Dr. Ortez see me outside in the hallway now , you too Yale" she said in a stern tone. and we both stepped out "i'm very sorry were gonna run some tests and your scans will be back in a few" she told Kermit. and stepped outside.
"Dr. Carlson i'm really sorry but-" she cut me off. " what you two did in there today was unprofessional. if he doesn't wanna have the surgery he doesn't have to. i understand you think this is the wrong choice but it is not your decision to make. until you've lived with the fact that you've had cancer for four years, being sick none stop , on going doctors appointments , family lectures then i suppose you shut up." she said in a firm tone.
"if that ever happens again i will bury you two in scut do you understand me" she asked. "yes ma'am" we nodded our heads. "go get his scans" she ordered. we walked to the scan room when an idea popped into my head.
"we can save him , i have a plan we can save him" i spoke. "what are you talking about he doesn't want surgery" Jordan took the scans off the X-ray board. "sedate him , nobody has to know. we can take him up to the O.R.-" i said before he cut me off.
"woah woah woah woah , you're going way too far we'll get fired" he said. "not if we can pull this off" i suggested. "but Dr. Carlson said-" i cut him off. "blah blah blah rules rules rules we have a chance to save his life so what" i said and snatched the scans out of his hands.
-OWEN POV
"hey Dr. Waldorf" i ran to catch up to her. "hi" she exclaimed. "hi" i smiled. "so i was- i was wondering do- are you free tonight" i stammered. "sorry i have plans , me and Dr ray are having a movie night. but tomorrow i'm definitely free" she nodded.
"i also wondering , are you in need of a roommate or a friend who has one because i need an apartment or a room.. i've been staying with my boyfriend and i hate it. i want a room to myself or some space" she chuckled.
