When Maria awoke the next morning, she discovered that she had:
1. Slept throughout the whole evening and night.
2. Adjusted to her wings, she could barely feel the weight of the bones.
Turning to look at them, she saw that Sebastian had been right after all. Small down feathers were forming along the bones, and inbetween the bones that skinny material had started to grow. It looked really disgusting, so Maria went over and locked the door with a click.
An hour had passed before Sebastian came to see how she was doing, which was weird. It was definitely like he couldn't sense her anymore. He immediately tried to get her to open the door.
"Maria? Why is the door locked, is something wrong?"
"No."
"Then could you open the door?"
"No."
"Is 'no' the only thing you know how to say?" Sebastian sighed from the other side of the door.
"....No."
There was a chuckle from Sebastian. "Maria, I certainly don't care about how bad your wings look. After all, I went through something similar to this myself."
Maria thought about it for a second, then slowly unlocked the door. Before she could change her mind Sebastian strode in.
"Really? You've gone through something like this?"
"No. I lied."
Maria glared before going to push him back out, but the demon didn't budge.
"Maria," he said in a bored tone, "I've already seen them by now."
With a groan on giving up Maria went back over to her bed and flopped down on it.
"Well, I guess if you don't want to learn more about fallen angels then I guess I will take my leave..." She heard footsteps and instantly replied.
"Hold up." She heard Sebastian reentering the room before shutting the door. She rolled over and sat up straight on the bed, giving him a look. "I guess since we are both inhuman creatures, that makes us equal?"
"I suppose so, why?" Sebastian asked.
"You're being a lot more friendly and less sophisticated towards me." She noticed he hadn't called her "milady" at all since he entered the room. He was being very...casual.
"I guess I see it as that, yes." The demon responded, absentmindedly setting a tray down on her bedside table. The tray had materials for making tea on it.
"Can you tell me more about fallen angels? I think you know me more than I know myself at this point."
"I was waiting for you to ask that. Do you have any questions up front?"
"Will I be able to eat and drink human food?" She was dubiously looking at the tea Sebastian had prepared.
To her surprise, the butler started laughing as he handed her the teacup of the hot liquid. "Yes, that's what you eat to survive."
"What's so funny about that?"
"It just wasn't the sort of question I expected you to ask." At that moment Ciel walked into the room. Maria winced, she had forgotten to lock the bloody thing after Sebastian had shut it. She quickly looked away as Ciel looked at her wings quietly for a moment, extremely embarrassed about her current appearance.
"Does it hurt?" She looked up at Ciel in surprise before shaking her head no. She couldn't even feel it.
"Good." The Earl seated himself in a chair next to her bed. "Now I can finally relax for once."
"Sorry." She instantly apologized, and he waved it away with his hand.
"Its not even your fault, we're just glad that you're back." Maria nodded before looking at Sebastian, silently asking him to continue telling her about her kind.
"As I was saying, Maria, fallen angels need human food to survive. They are the equilibrium between angels and demons, the closest thing to humans really, so eating human-made things makes sense. Even though humans are weak, fallen angels are the most powerful species. They retain most of their humanity and also have supernatural powers."
"What kind of powers?"
"Angelic and demonic mostly, a few from each. You could easily take on either of the species at the least."
"What else can you tell me?"
"As a Fallen, may I call them that, you are also under the radar to any species besides your own."
"That explains why you can't sense me anymore, and how you didn't notice that I had woken up until you found me with Castizel." Sebastian nodded. Thinking of the greater Fallen, Maria had more questions to ask.
"What can you tell me about him?"
"He's is very powerful, I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to last long in a battle against him." Ciel's eyes widened a little and Maria cast her glance to the floor. That explains why he had fled from Castizel.
Sebastian continued, "He isn't very old, which is surprising because he is very notorious already."
"Notorious for what?" Ciel asked.
"Being so powerful at such a young age, evil things, the like."
Wow, he really cleared the water there. Maria thought as a question popped into her head. She was remembering her "conversation" with Castizel from the night before.
"Can our kind talk mentally to each other?"
"Not unless you are bonded. Why? Has he talked to you?"
"No." Maria lied. She could handle Castizel herself, she had to. If Sebastian couldn't defeat him then she was the only one who could. She wouldn't put them in danger like that. Not ever.
