Chapter Two

When Sebastian brought Ciel his afternoon tea, he was mildly surprised at the sight of his master and Maria playing chess together.

"Damn!"

"Checkmate."

"You play chess, Lady Maria?" Sebastian brought two cups of tea over to the two, who decided that it was break time.

"Apparently," Ciel grumbled, "and she is quite good at it too."

"I've only won for the third time in a row." Maria shrugged, then stare-glared Sebastian. "I'm not going to let you force me to go back to bed, y'know."

Sebastian smiled at her, thinking that she acted very much like Ciel sometimes. "If you are fit enough to beat m'lord at chess three times in a row m'lady, then I think you are fit enough to be out and about."

Not like you could do much against me anyway if I did have to force you. Sebastian turned to his master to discuss their most recent case the Queen had requested that they solve.

"Tonight there will be a ball that the prime suspect will be attending. I have heard he has a thing for cute little girls." They were dealing with yet another girl market case, some girls disappearing from alleyways and some from fancy parties like tonight's.

Ciel noticeably paled. "I will not dress up as a girl again, Sebastian!"

Maria straightened up and perked up at the same time. "You need a girl?" They both knew what she was implying.

"Absolutely not," Ciel told her. "William isn't here to protect you. If something happened to you I don't know how he would react."

"Hellooo," Maria drew out the last syllable. She pointed at Sebastian, "Demon butler who is perfectly capable of protecting two people at once is standing right here. Besides, this guy is only after girls right? No one will go after you."

"She does have a point, my lord. We need to solve this case." Sebastian voiced before smiling wickedly at Ciel. "Unless you want to wear the corset again..."

Ciel shook his head quickly. "Fine, fine. I really hope you don't screw this up, Maria."

"They don't call me the Queen's Kitten for nothing," Maria sounded offended. "I am just as capable as the dog is, if not better."

Maria stepped out of the carriage, accepting Sebastian's hand as he steadied her as she momentarily swayed.

"Are you okay?"

"Fine. It will pass shortly. Thank you."

As Ciel stepped out dressed in his fancier attire, Maria self-checked herself again. This time she had grudgingly accepted Sebastian's help for her dress, and the one he had chosen out of her extremely large wardrobe was quite stunning. Lavendar satin with dark purple lace over it covered the upper half of her body, while the longer skirt dropped down to the floor in the same lavendar satin as the top. The purple and lavendar made her amber eyes pop a bit, and her fancy updo drew attention to her face.

Sebastian was experienced with corsets, but with women's hair on the other hand...

"It has been a while since I've done this, I feel I have nearly no experience with lady's hair," he had warned her before starting. Of course the demon who was skilled at everything made her hair look fantastic. When they met up with Ciel before going to the carriage he had looked her up and down before saying, "You look good."

Then he realized that he had actually complimented her and quickly added, "Well, good enough to catch the suspect I suppose."

Maria just smiled and returned the compliment, adding a, "for a dog," to the end of it.
