Chapter Nine
"I believe your 'ownership' of her ended when you broke the contract." Sebastian replied in an icy tone, his eyes glaring daggers at the other demon emerging from the shadows.
William didn't seem to have heard him, his eyes only seeking Maria's face. "Such a lovely creature, is she not?" He breathed in a sort of sickening awe, an obsession that could not be cured. "She did so well today. If you hadn't stopped her she would have devoured that man's soul whole, and would have transformed into my lovely Lyra." As he spoke he had advanced on the demon and the girl, and Sebastian didn't speak or flinch away until William traced a finger down the Lady's face.
"Don't touch her." Sebastian moved back a step so that William was out of reach, the warning clear.
William's face twisted in rage for a moment before it relaxed again as he shrugged. "No matter, I will touch her as much as I want to after you give her to me."
That sounded disgusting. This demon was nasty, a truly sickening creature. And no one was allowed to touch the Lady, at least not while he was around.
"I believe you are sorely mistaken by thinking that." Sebastian responded, trying to stay civilized.
William chuckled before saying," How is the young Earl Phantimhive, hm? Giving him to a 'trusted' driver was a sorry mistake."
Sebastian's eyes widened slightly in surprise and mostly anger. When it came to it Ciel was above Maria, no matter what. No matter how much Sebastian didn't like it, that was how it went.
"What have you done to him." Sebastian asked, his voice lowering as the demon became more angry.
"Nothing... yet. If you hand over Lady Maria now, you may make it in time."
Sebastian tried hard to feel or see if the demon was lying in any way, but he couldn't get a good read in him. He couldn't risk Ciel's soul, but Maria...
"Time's a-ticking." William reminded with a cruel laugh.
Sebastian looked down at the girl's face, not knowing what would happen to her if he let her go.
"Don't even try to run with her. One word and my demons will rip Mr. Phantomhive to shreds. Imagine: His screams of pain and terror in between his beckoning calls to his demon who won't be there to rescue him..."
"Enough!" Sebastian snarled, finally making his decision. He carefully set Maria down on the ground and looked at her one last time: beautifully fragile and pale, yet underneath pumped liveliness and sass that he had only seen in a few select women.
"Good decision." William smiled as he spoke through his teeth, stepping forward to pick Maria up. "Better hurry back to the Earl, or else..."
By the time William had scooped Maria into his arms and stood again, Sebastian was gone.
Don't worry, Maria. I will get you back again.
Short and not so sweet haha......
