Alex POV:
I could sense Alaya was anxious well before we walked through the classroom doors. "The professor is going to love your art work," I commented as I turned to her. ''You've got this," I'm not sure where the confidence came from, but as we stepped through the doors, I took her hand. When I turned to face her, I noticed her face turning scarlet. It was so lovely to see the purity in her expression.
''Good morning Professor Green'' I said as I spotted him by his desk.
While twirling his moustache and looking up at Alaya, he replied. ''Ahhh... good morning Mr Scott. You are here so early two days in a row, there must be something in the air.... and who is this young lady next to you?
''This is Alaya Khan. You know the student I mentioned yesterday, the one who wants to transfer from medicine to this class? You said to bring her in so she could show you her art work?'' I explained.
''Ahhhh yes I recall now. Good morning Miss Khan I'm Professor Green''
I didn't realise I was still holding her hand until Alaya let go of my tight grip and extended her hand to shake the professors' hand. When she let go, I couldn't help but feel sad and a frown appeared on my forehead.
''Good morning Professor Green, please call me Alaya. It's a pleasure to meet you, and I appreciate you taking the time to see me. Thank you very much,'' she said graciously.
''She's got manners Mr Scott. I can't say the same for you", he said to me before returning his attention to Alaya. "Mr Scott informs me you would like to switch from medicine to art, which is a significant change. Can you explain your sudden change of heart?"
I couldn't help but give the Professor a sideways glance.
"I'd like to be an illustrator, I would like to design visuals for books. Art is something I adore. To be honest, any kind of it. My parents want me to go into medicine, but I'm not liking the classes, and I'd love it if I could transfer." she stated to make her point. Her nerves were fading, I could tell.
''Can you show me some your work?'' Professor Green asked.
''Yes of course.'' She pulled her sketchbook from her bag and handed it over to the Professor.
"'My goodness!! These are incredible. Mr Scott, they're better than anything you've done," he exclaimed.
With a smirk on my face, I said, "I told you Professor." This was a victory since it was impossible to get the Professor to agree with me on anything.
"So will Alaya be able to transfer to this class?" With great zeal, I probed.
He answered, "It's a definite yes from me, Alaya."
Alaya squealed with glee and hugged me out of nowhere. Wow, I didn't see that coming. Nonetheless, it was warmly embraced. She must have realised what she had done because she took a step back and turned to the professor, slightly embarrassed because her face had turned crimson. "Thank you so much, Professor Green; I won't let you down."
''I will hold you to that Alaya. Do you have your application form with you? '' The professor inquired, ''I can have my personal assistant process it for you.''
"Yes, I do." she answered ,as she handed him the form. This exciting side of Alaya was one of my favourites. She exuded joy, and it was contagious.
''That's great. See you next week Alaya'' the professor said as we gathered our bags and left.
