"I STILL CAN'T DO this to her, zach. i told you out of pure confidence but the second i break her heart it's over. i lose her possibly forever."
"if you were able to tell one of her best friends, you can tell her. i'm not letting her get even more hurt for not finding out sooner."
after daniel had told zach about how he was falling out of liking for his own girlfriend, zach took it upon himself to force daniel to talk to her about this before she was going to shatter into a million pieces for being faked about how the boy cares about her.
only she thought that daniel just wasn't ready to tell her that he loved her, that's at least what she remembered him saying when she first had said the l word.
daniel didn't want to hurt her, which is why he was thinking about staying in the relationship until he began to love her, but nothing worked. he's felt trapped for a couple of months now and nobody knew what to do about it, sage's constant presence didn't help when he was at home either.
"you go up there and tell her what you did. there's nothing you can change about what you're doing. no backtracking and no faking any feelings. be the honest guy you promised her you would be." zach told the boy, shaking him out of his thoughts slightly which daniel realized that they arrived already.
once daniel worked up enough courage, he found his way up to his own apartment, walking in to be greeted by the smell of fresh cookies- just like the ones from when they made their first youtube video together.
"sage?" he called for her, only to catch a glimpse her brunette hair as he walked into the kitchen, now seeing all of her.
"hi bubs." she greeted, about to walk up to him but he simply held his hand out, not wanting to hug and kiss her- not with the guilt in his chest rising.
"i can't do this anymore, sage." he admitted finally, the girl shaking her head in confusion.
"what're you talking about daniel?"
"we can't be together anymore. i don't love you."
"daniel-"
"it's over, sage. i'm being a good guy and not let you feel-"
"you just love the feelings that i give you." she sighed, knowing that it was the truth. "but you don't love me."
"i'm sorry-"
"don't be. i'll move out if you want."
"you even know that i'll never get tired of your face. especially since i can't just lose you forever."
"wherever i go you'll always be there- i can't do that."
"this is it, huh?" he sighed, staring at the girl, searching the girl's face he believed he knew so well but only saw everything so differently.
"sometimes good things have to fall apart."
