Place: Somewhere else, time: unavailable
Enjolras opened his eyes to see a clear blue sky, and slowly sat up to find himself in a grassy field he recognized as one the Amis used to visit, outside of Paris.
One hand went to his chest, searching for the gunshot wounds, but there was nothing to be found, not even the coarseness of his own bindings. It was as if he was truly himself.
That was when he noticed the hand still clasped in his.
He turned to see Grantaire, gazing up at the sky dreamily.
"What's going on? Is this-"
"Heaven?" Grantaire interrupted, "I would assume so. Unless my own personal hell is somehow laying in this nice place holding your hand."
Enjolras let go of his hand, standing up and looking around, murmuring, "So we really did die."
Grantaire stood up slowly, "Uh- Enjolras, can I ask you something?"
"Yes." Enjorlas said, absently taking his hand again as they started to walk toward a figure standing on the hill.
"Why- why did you do that? You didn't have to die- you could've gotten out of there."
Enjolras stopped walking, turning to look at him, "Well- you told me you couldn't lose both of us. And so I was thinking about that. I saw that what was left of my life spread out in front of me, a blank page where I could do anything I wanted, but that page was shrinking. So I did what I wanted to do."
"Die?" He asked.
Enjolras chuckled, taking Grantaire other hand in his as well, "Apologize. So from the deepest part of my heart Grantaire, I am sorry- for any pain I caused you, be it hurting you in an argument, or beginning my courtship with Jacquelyn. Though as I see it- well that part doesn't matter right now."
"We have all of eternity Apollo, how could it not be important?"
Enjolras ducked his head, blushing, "If you must know- well- it has become clear to me that along with my feelings for Jacquelyn, I harbor feelings for you."
Grantaire froze, "Your joking- don't joke about this sort of thing Apollo."
"I- I'm not- Grantiare you must believe me-" Enjorlas practically jumped forward, letting go of Grantaire's hands to wrap his arms around his neck as he kissed him.
"Oh-" Grantiare muttered as the pulled apart.
"If you'd permit that?"
Grantaire blinked, before shaking his head, and chuckling, "Always."
Enjolras grinned, and taking Grantaire's hand again they began to move toward the grassy slope.
Jacquelyn stood waiting for them, smiling, "I see things have finally worked themselves out."
Grantaire let go of Enjolras' hand to pull them forward into a kiss, "Why couldn't we figure this out on earth?"
"Because you two are idiots," They laughed, taking his hand, and Enjolras' in their other, "Now come on, everyone's waiting for us."
And together, hand in hand, they cross into eternity, the darkest night having finally ended.
And thats a wrap! I hope you all enjoyed, didn't cry too much. Go check out the other stories on my page, and stay hydrated!
