Teary Surprise (NicoMaki)

No One's POV

As soon as the bell rang, she ran up the stairs and went to the third years' classroom. Leaving her friends stunned in their own seats, but they both let out a can't-be-helped sigh.

"That's Maki-chan for you, nya!" The orange haired exclaimed with both of her hands up and the other nearing her seat giggles at her energy.

"It can't be helped. After all, it is her birthday." The brunette puts her hands on the still seated cat with a fond smile on her face.

"Yep!"

The second years who passed by the stairs from their own classrooms, saw the redhead but didn't manage to strike a conversation. The redhead was too fast. The usually energetic second year was about to chase the redhead, wondering why their quiet first year was running upwards, thinking she was excited for practice in the rooftop. She was stopped in her tracks by her childhood friends who were silently telling her something with just their expressions. It was just like their leader to forget they had no practice for that day.

Student council president and her vice-president were waiting for her just at the top of the stairs with teasing grins on their faces. They both knew exactly what the redhead would be doing.

When the redhead looked up and saw the blonde and purple-haired her face immediately grew to the shade of a tomato, like she was about to burst. She shook her head and let out the steam. She slowly regained her cool and looked up at the seniors with a determined glint in her eyes.

"What are you two doing? You're blocking the way down with both of you in front of the stairs." An irritated tone entered the tense atmosphere coming from left of the other seniors.

"You can just slide through the side, Nicocchi." The purple haired commented that the blonde almost laugh at the implication.

"What was that Nozomi?" A vein popped on her forehead just thinking of what the called girl was even trying to say. She was gripping on the slings of her bag and just walked into the view of the redhead.

The redhead was suddenly flustered again but kept her face relaxed, the usual expression on her face.

"Nico calm down." The blonde tried her best to instill peace between them, although all three of them know that this is how they bond. It has just become the norm for them by the present.

"Oh, it's Maki-chan." Nico finally looked down the stairs and saw the called girl. A look of shock and surprise crossed her face and let out a proud sigh. "You just can't get enough of me, don't you Maki-chan?"

That sinister proud grin was on her face again and Maki just scoffed at it and took strong steps towards where her seniors where, then took the hand of the proud shorter senior and smirked.

"Then what if I do?" The blonde purple haired couple covered their mouths with their hands at the bold declaration. Nico even had a deep blush color her cheeks when the words registered in her brain. "Let's go!"

"Have fun you two." The purple haired cheered and the blonde just gave a supportive thumbs up. Nico was torn between feeling thrilled at what Maki was doing or be irritated at the other two being themselves. Still, she didn't let it bother her and just smiled at the other two.

"Wai- Maki-chan! Where are we going?" Nico has continued to try her best to keep up with the younger girl and asked.

"To your celebration. You siblings are already there." Maki looked back and smiled at the raven haired.

"They're already there!? What did you do with them?"

"I told you we're having a celebration today. They're the ones who even asked me if they could go to."

"Whaaat?"

"Don't think too much about it, Nico-chan. It's only my house."

"Your house!? You mean that big house!?"

"Where else?"

"You have a point."

"Come on, Nico-chan. We're here."

They stopped in front of the doorstep. Nico didn't let Maki let go of her hand and stayed gripping it.

"If my siblings really did had a hand in today's preparations, I might just cry." Nico mumbled to herself and let Maki hear what she was saying. At that Maki smiled for Nico admitted her feelings at that very moment.

They took a step forward and Maki opened the door, letting Nico enter first. She was greeted with the rain of confetti and cute little cheers of her younger sisters, even her younger brother was raising both of his hands and cheered with his still soft voice.

True to her words, Nico started tearing up and dropped to her knees to hug her younger siblings. They raced to hug Nico first and Maki couldn't help but giggle and feel a little jealous at the scene.

"Thank you, you guys. All that's left is for mama to be here and it'll be perfect." Nico hugged her younger siblings tightly and said the words to herself. A figure arrives to the side of Maki, that she was momentarily startled and her eyes immediately softened at knowing who was the figure.

"What did I hear you say about me?"

"Mama!" Her younger siblings rejoiced as soon as they saw their mother and ran to her.

Nico was frozen still on her spot when she heard the voice. That was until Maki called for her and looked behind to see her mother with her younger siblings.

"M-mama, why are you here?" Nico was just about to cry, being overwhelmed by everything.

"Why shouldn't I be? It's your day, plus Maki-chan called me to be here too." Her mother smiled at her.

Nico turned to look at her redhead but is not there anymore. She looked to the stairs and there she was, bringing back something in her hands.

"What are you guys doing? Making me cry like this..." Nico reached up to wipe the tears raining down on her cheeks.

"Happy birthday, Nico-chan/Onee-chan!" The five of them said with wide smiles as Maki gave her the present and her mother pulling her in for a mother's embrace, stroking her hair.

Bonus...

Maki took a deep breath and exhales.

"It really is tiring..." Maki held her balance with a hand on a wall.

"What is? You being daring and not the least bit embarrassed of everything you said today?" Nico leaned to the wall Maki was balancing herself with, a teasing smile on her lips.

With the corner of her eyes, Maki looked at Nico and moved in front of her girlfriend, slammed a hand to the side of Nico's head.

"What, you don't like it?" After that initial confidence, Maki turned red in embarrassment at what she just did. She falls into the arms of Nico who laughs at the attempt.
