Ch. 38

I had arrived and was retrieving the keys out of my purse when Nolan beat me to it.

"Really?" He jokingly frowned and went back to the couch where Ares seemed to be napping until Nolan's jump woke him up.

Ares was about to say something until he realized I was standing through the doorway and positioned himself right back up.

I decided to ignore the fact that he was napping to not make him feel uncomfortable so I closed the door and faced Nolan.

"Really? Really what? Is this not my home?" I said taking my shoes off.

"Nah im just waiting for pizza." He said casually scrolling for a film to watch on the television.

Unbelievable.

"Again? Aw too scared to pick up some cooking tools?" I said plopping next to him.

"Ha ha." He said as he pulled me close to him.

Resting my head against his shoulders reminded me of home. Nolan and I had gone to the same schools growing up but never directed a word to each other until high school. It was a weird friendship that formed out of nowhere but he was there for me in my guy situations along with the girls. He gave me some good advice that at some point I thought he might be gay.

I hadn't even noticed that my body felt tired and knotted until I started yawning.

"You're sleepy already?" Nolan asked with curiosity.

"You know some of us have jobs right?" I said standing up and grabbing my purse ready to head into my room.

This caused Ares to laugh and Nolan stared at us both with a serious face.

"We'll be leaving in a few days so it doesn't matter. However, you haven't taken us to any cool places in the area. We haven't even hung out at all. Tomorrow we have to go clubbing or something. I think I'm forgetting how to flirt."

I tried not thinking of tomorrow and the possibility that everything could turn out wrong and something dangerous happening. I had tried pushing it aside.

"No, not tomorrow. I know I've been busy with work but I promise after tomorrow I'll take you both out. I have the perfect place in mind." I didn't but I supposed I'd figure it out.

There was a slight knock on the door and Nolan raced towards it with excitement.

I took this as a chance to run and hide myself in my room for a few minutes and relax myself.

"Hey are you okay?" Ares said, walking up behind me speaking quietly enough so that only I could hear him.

"Oh yea. Yes. Why? Do I not look okay?" I asked.

"No yea but you look you know you're stressed. I imagine work is beating your ass huh?" He asked shyly.

Oh he has no idea.

I figured he was making conversation and I started feeling ashamed of the fact that I wasn't hanging out as much with them while they were here visiting the city.

"It definitely has been. But I am looking forward to a new project soon so hopefully it'll be better. But thank you for asking. Please don't be shy to make yourself at home okay?" I said placing my hand over his shoulder for reassurance before receiving a smile from him and closing the door behind me.

I hung my purse behind my closet door and stripped down naked letting my clothes hit the floor. I grabbed my towel and grabbed my phone to take a shower with me.
