I did not have to look at my own reflection to know that my eyes were widened. The room has fell silent and I had stopped breathing.
Harris held the gun to my face and with that, a hysterical laugh came out of his mouth followed by Ryder.
I noticed he had lowered down the gun and I was now laughing nervously too.
"Oh man that's funny." Ryder said as he adjusted his tie to the center.
Harris sat down on his desk gasping for air. I stayed on my spot trying to recollect myself.
"No but we weren't playing. Ryder just didn't put it in the right words. We have this corporation as a cover for the things we do behind closed doors. We edit the bad parts out of the story. We only put what the world wants to see. People need to believe good things still happen in the world no?" He said looking at me. His blue eyes now seemed to have grown cold as he stared deeply into mine.
I stayed quiet without giving him a response hoping that jack would talk with me through the earpiece.
Nothing. Just pure static.
"I suppose. But what do I do with that information?" I asked.
"Nothing at all. If you think of even saying anything, no one will believe you and we'll go after your family. And I mean every single last one of them. Pets included." He said as he smiled.
"You're sick Harrison." Ryder said followed by a laugh.
"For now, you'll continue doing your real work in the office and since you know about what we do, we'll train you. Maybe one day when im gone you'll even be in charge. Sounds great no?" He said as he stood up from his chair and walked towards me.
I had no escape. I was trapped. I straightened my posture as he came closer.
"You're so beautiful, you know?" He said as he eyed me up and down.
I gasped in for air and recited as many bible verses as I could on the spot.
"It'd be a shame to end your life. So I suggest you follow my orders. Or you'll end up at the bottom of the building where no one will end up looking for you. If you do as you say, I'll protect you. I swear."
It's as if god himself had heard my prayer. There was a knock on the door and both Ryder and Harris pointed their guns toward the door.
His attention was now fixed on the door.
"Who is it?" Harris asked.
"Edgar. Wanted to let you know that everything is back to normal. We have swept all the floors and there's nothing out of the ordinary. The coast is clear."
I recognized the voice and knew it was one of the guards from the building.
"Thank you for letting me know." Harris said. He looked at Ryder and back at me.
"Well. Ryder it looks like you are now free to go. We'll pick up in a few days at the next meeting no?" He said placing the gun into the back of his pants.
"Guess so. Just a shame you're not putting this one on the list or I'd take her home tonight." He said as he stepped closer to me.
"No. I have other plans for her." Harris said stepping between me and Ryder.
I looked him dead in the eye. I wasn't afraid. Or at least that's what I told myself.
"I'll see you around then." Ryder looked at me one last time and back to Harris before he stepped out of the office leaving me and Harris alone.
And just like that, I heard jacks voice through the earpiece once more and almost smiled.
"Hey Sabrina. The guys are on their way back. All they did was give Harris a message. I got in contact with Damon. I don't know about Elijah . Just try to come out of the building alive or he'll kill me. I have to cut the signal." His voice was soft and seemed to be heard from far away.
"What's next?" I asked Harris.
He did walked towards me and stopped a few feet away.
"I'm assigning you a new task. You're going to get us clients." He said with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Through meetings?" I asked. I knew that today I had found out something I wish I would've found out later. I wasn't prepared for what was next. And honestly my mind was racing at the thought of where Elijah could be at.
"Yeah something like that. I'd show you around the restricted floors but since it's getting late and I still believe we're being watched, I'm letting you go early. Tomorrow we'll start talking." Without saying another word, he called Edgar over to escort me out. I went back into my office to grab my things and followed Edgar out. Harris got the opportunity to pinch my ass.
I gasped at the action causing Edgar to turn maround but Harris had closed the door. Without saying anything, we stepped into the elevator and made our way down to the lobby.
I walked faster grasping my purse and looking around. Everyone seemed to be collecting their items while chatting away. I'm guessing most people were making their way back home.
Without looking back at the building, I walked towards my car pulling out my keys when I felt a pair of hands on my waist.
I gasped thinking it was Harris but relieved to see it was Elijah from the car window.
"Hey we gotta get in quick." He said. I quickly unlocked the door and unlocked the passenger side. I waited for him to get in and started the engine.
I had drove off a few blocks away from the building and we were waiting at a red light.
I took this moment to look at him and admire him. I was glad he was safe. He noticed my stare so he looked right back.
And without thinking twice about it, I kissed him.
