"I can get that information for you."
I don't even know how I managed to get those words out of my mouth.
I instantly regretted it.
As silence washed all over the room, I looked around directly at Elijah and he put his glass down.
"Well I am all ears." Damon said smiling as he took a seat.
"Well I- I um." I couldn't even get the words out of my mouth. I wasn't planning on telling them anything at the moment. I knew that telling them would mean more issues would rise.
I stood up from where I was seated and nervously said "when I walked into the magnolia building, i didn't know I'd be working for Harrison. But i actually got my package from the corporation on how I got the job and im expected to go in next week."
"No." Elijah said.
"I'm sorry?" I asked confused over his response.
"I said no. There's no way you can work for him." Elijah said tensing up.
"I mean I need the job. They have the best program of authors and i need the help to publish my boo-." I was cut off by Elijah saying no once more and a bit louder this time.
Damon stepped into the conversation, "Dude are you out of your mind?? This is the best idea I've heard in the history of ideas. It's so good not even I thought of it myself." Damon said getting closer to me.
"I support you baby girl." Damon said putting his hands on my shoulder.
"I approve of this one Elijah." Damon said laughing.
Elijah wasn't even looking my way but I could sense the anger built within him. He finally managed to stand up and come closer to me and Damon.
"This is a suicide mission Damon. She doesn't need to work for you. For us. We can get intel someplace else."
"Where Elijah please enlighten me and tell me where! Our fucking father died and no one wants to be seen working for us because they're all scared. He damaged our reputation even more and now the business is hanging on by a fucking thread so please tell me how this isn't the best idea ever. We could train her, get her a personal bodyguard-"
"Our father isn't dead. I refuse to believe it. Unless I see the fucking body with my own eyes, he's not fucking dead. He's hiding like a coward because he couldn't finish his last job. Instead I had to shoot the guy to protect us all. There's no way I'm letting Sabrina go through some shit like this or get involved even more for that matter." Elijah ran his fingers through his hair and paced the room back and fourth.
"Honestly this isn't a bad idea. I see this as a complete win. All you would have to do is try and seduce the old man and have him wrapped around your finger. Easy." Jack said leaning down on the counter.
"I need another drink." Alex said standing up and grabbing a bottle of whiskey. She didn't even pour it in her cup, she chugged it out of the bottle itself.
Could this get any worse?
"You can't decide for me Elijah. I'll choose what I can and cannot do. I got involved the minute I crossed paths with you. The least you can do now is let me be useful. I can't sit around here and do nothing. Jack is involved and that means May is involved too. And I'd take a bullet for her."
"Well a bullet on my arm because I bet it hurts." I said trying to lift up the tension in the room.
"Fine. You do as you please. You'll come to realize you put yourself in danger when it's too late. This isn't a movie, princess. It's real life." Elijah said getting a bit closer to me. Damon decided to head out to smoke a cigarette.
"I know what I got myself into. I also know I'm dealing with the devil himself. But I'll manage." I said looking up at him trying my best to sound reassuring enough.
"I don't want to see you get hurt cherie. Everyone ends up dead or disappears. It's a serious job."
I didn't know what to say back.
Did I really want to do this?
Did I say it because it was something in the moment?
Honestly I was just tired of not doing anything. I haven't done anything interesting since I graduated high school. I've never had anything interesting happen in my life. You would think that after high school and college you begin your life. It's complete bullshit and they get it in your head.
I mean I'm expected to write a book in less than three weeks. I am going to be working for a possible serial killer. I met a guy who's in some sort of mafia. One of my best friends is pregnant with a possible drug lord.
So yeah this was pretty interesting.
Before I even got the chance to say something else, Elijah left the house without looking back.
Damon came inside shortly after.
"Give him a week. Three day for you Sabrina. Lets continue arranging this without him. Now where's that stupid package you were talking about?"
-
I don't know how I found myself in a car with Damon in the back and Alex in the passengers seat. Jack was going to wait until May woke up to give her the news.
Throughout the whole car ride, no one said a word.
We had finally arrived outside my building and we decided to go up to my floor and into my living room.
"Sorry for the mess." I said kicking clothes out of the way.
Damon sat down and Alex followed me to the kitchen.
"Are you sure you want to do this baby? It's not our fight." Alex said looking at me.
"I honestly don't know. But we're deep into it already. Plus I could use inspiration for my story." I closed the package and made my way out towards Damon.
"The letter is the one at the top. Everything else are examples of some articles and people I'll be working with."
I handed him the package carefully and he studied it as he got it in his hands.
"Son of a bitch." He said laughing as he picked up an article.
I looked at Alex a bit puzzled and she just shrugged.
"You see this article? Complete bullshit. It's a cover up. One of his men killed an innocent man for delivering the wrong package to a client and the list was reviewed by him. He can't do anything without fucking up." He tossed the article and closed the package.
"How do you know that?" I asked.
"We have spies in the building. We managed to also hack into the security systems a month ago but they changed the code once again."
"So why exactly should she get information if you guys have people in the building already?" Alex asked Damon.
He smirked looking her up and down and looked back at me.
"Because she will get the privilege to make the big move." He looked at me and smiled even wider.
"And what exactly is that?" I crossed my arms over my chest as a feeling of terror ran down my spine.
"You aren't just seducing him. You're going to kill him."
I think I heard incorrectly.
Right?
