Trust me when I tell you the hours seemed to go by really slow. Out of all of the days, time decides to go slower today?
I was dreading to get out of the office already. Harris hadn't returned back to his office, instead, one of the girls from the floor above me kept entering to check on me. The fifth time she came into my office, she was bringing me a latte which I gladly accepted. After she left, I discarded the cup because i didn't really trust her. No offense, i had never even talked to the girl just saw her around like another work. But still, oddly weird.
I had caught up with scheduling meetings for a few authors and had to send the schedule for the new books to the lower level staff since they were in charge of the marketing.
I wasn't completely finished but I had decided to take a break and look at my emails.
I saw that the deadline for the book I was supposed to have turned in over a week ago was no longer an opportunity for me. I had not even finished the story because really, I had not taken the time to sit down and write a story based on a real lie experience. My life was pretty boring up until now. How do I even write about a shady covert operation? Because that's what this was, right?
I logged into my account for my publishing website account and stared at the computer screen knowing that there wasn't even an end to the story I was supposed to create.
It took everything in me to move the mouse key and hit the x mark next to the file to delete it.
I clicked on a new page to begin with and hovered by fingers across the keyboard.
I jotted down some notes for what could potentially be my next story.
Until my phone rang.
I saw the caller ID and saw that Alex was calling my phone and i immediately picked up.
"Hello?" I leaned my back against the chair and crossed my legs.
"Hey Sabri. You busy?" She asked.
"I mean Im still at work but not necessarily doing much. I have 30 minutes left before I leave anyways so I'll start packing in 10. Why?" I asked clicking my pen over and over again.
"Because i got out of work about two hours ago and wanted to come over. I'm bored." She said with a tone of exaggeration.
I sighed. "I have to go pick up Nolan from the airport. He's here in the city. Wanna come with?"
I didn't hear a response for a good minute.
"Hey, you still there?" I asked.
"No, yea. I'll come with. Haven't seen him in a while anyways." She answered back.
"Cool. I'll meet you in front of my apartment in 40 then." And with that I hung up.
I resumed my notes and hit 'save'. It almost seems like i shouldn't write anything. There's always something that gets in the way.
I closed all tabs from the computer and logged out. I reached over to get my comfy shoes to change in the car. I grabbed all the trash and set it aside.
I made sure everything was off and grabbed all of my papers and locked the office door. I figured that I'd have to talk to Harris about the possibility of changing my door knob since he most likely had a copy of the key to unlock it and I didn't really like the idea of him going through my stuff. Or even worse, one of the workers.
I took a quick moment to glance around Harris's office because I never really took a good look at since it always gave me weird vibe.
I noticed that there wasn't a thing misplaced in sight but at the corner of his desk was a pretty thick folder with some papers coming out. I decided to take a few steps forward to exam them praying that it wasn't more paperwork for me to do.
