Forgetting body consciousness..

Sattar had become very close to me despite our mutual antagonism and disagreement. He enjoyed listening to me but called my views funny and unacceptable. He had the fully wrong belief that I was trying to convert him into his ancestors' and my own religion Hinduism.By that time I had forgotten that I was a Hindu and was meditating hard to forget my body and even my name,(that was "I was so and so or Mr.XYZ" ).It was very difficult for me to explain why to him. When I said this to him he had a good laugh. When he asked me the reason behind it,I said,"Can you be fully independent, detached and impartial when your name, religion, social status etc matter to you quite as much as to any other worldly person...?"

He took a sip of coffee and said,"Only if you have strong faith in God and not even the slightest disbelief about Him,be sure to enjoy all comforts on this planet and in heaven after you are dead." He would repeat this standard answer of his to whatever I told him in good faith.I couldn't accept his view that "Disobedience to God meant burning in hell eternally." Today he was doing his best to convince me that disobeying God or questioning His existence or disbelieving His orders or commands was paving my path to hell.
That God was angry with me,according to him, was unquestionable and hundred percent sure.

I said to him,"Dear Sir..Listen to me carefully. You know that God is without beginning and without end.His power is unlimited. Does He have an equal to fight with? There is no question of His power being reduced. If He were limited like a human being,He would be worried about the possibility of His power being reduced. He can't have the ego that makes a man feel insulted or hurt. God doesn't have the ego because He is without beginning and without end.Man wrongly thinks that God is like a human being and reacts to various situations just as we fools do.If any God is getting angry with His followers for disbelieving Him,He is simply a false God or He is just a figment of man's imagination. In order to get angry or feel insulted,a sense of dualism is required and the Supreme Being (of the Hindus) never allows any room for dualism. He lives in the soul of each and every living being. Why did Jesus forgive his killers? Because Jesus Himself was living in their souls. He knew His killers had all the common worldly concerns.Had He killed them, they would have suffered immensely
after becoming spirits because of their live worldly desires. If anyone thinks Jesus must have experienced extreme pain during His crucifixion,
they are blatantly mistaken.Jesus was not a body but the Supreme Being present everywhere. He didn't have any body consciousness."

Sattar shot a quip at me angrily,"What does this body consciousness mean?"

A few seconds later I said to him,"Very simple...If you have body consciousness you can't reach God. Since God is without a body and has no body consciousness therefore, you too must be without your body consciousness. Sadhus and yogis expose their bodies to unbearable heat,
cold, rain, hunger etc just to get rid of their body consciousness and then alone they can become infinite and God as well. This is how man attains salvation or emancipation from the worldly bondage."

He asked politely,"Have you got the body consciousness or not?"

I had to tell him the truth,"I have already told you that in 1997 I had a chain of psychic experiences.
At that time I had no body consciousness. When I touched any of my body part,I would be reminded that I had a body otherwise I had no body consciousness. It was really very interesting to fee that I had no body and I was as light as air..."

"Then why didn't you become a sanyasi or go to the Himalayas," he asked.

Again I told him the truth,"Lord Shiva
(Ramakrishna Paramahamsa)urged me to retain my bodily unconsciousness but I told Him I wanted to marry a beautiful girl and live a happy family life.He said,'Do you want Me or a beautiful woman?'
I said,"I want a beautiful woman,certainly not
You,my Lord.' He cried profusely and hurled vulgar obscenities at me which left me speechless and greatly confused.I asked myself if a saint of the highest order could utter such profane words. 23 years later I came to know that the great saint used dirty Bengali village slangs when angry with people. This was because he had dropped out of school at class 8."

Sattar appeared serious and said,"When you Hindus cremate a body, how can't its desires, feelings etc be destroyed?"

"Feelings, emotions, desires, anger, hatred are all abstract things. They don't have any shapes. Fire can destroy only things that have shapes and forms..." I said.

He said,"Excellent..!"

I was confused whether he complimented me or expressed his usual sarcasm.

"One more question to you.."  "You have told me  countless things. You say killing animals for food is deplorable and earns man bad karma. Can you explain this properly?"

I was happy with him for having asking me a question with genuine curiosity. I said to him:"I have just told you that abstract things without any shapes and sizes can't be burnt. If they can't be burnt, where will they go? They will remain intact for centuries. You must know that when you cut down crops or plants for food,do you have any sense of guilt? Everybody can do that universally. Yes or no?But everybody can't kill a cow,a goat,a pig or a  hen.Why because they consider it a cruel act.A butcher might boast that God and his religion allow him to kill an animal or bird for food, but in his heart of hearts he knows that he has killed a creature that didn't do any harm to him.In the loneliest corner of his heart dwells a sense of guilt which keeps growing as he goes on killing birds and animals. The people who observe him also think he is doing something objectionable----which they  themselves won't do for that very reason. Others who are vegetarians keep cursing the butcher angrily. The butcher's sense of guilt, his customers' sense of the butcher doing something objectionable and the curses of the kind-hearted people, the fear, agony and strong objection to the butcher's act get rolled into one or even if they remain scattered are bound to result in the butcher's bad karma. However much  strongly your holy texts tell you,you can kill an innocent creature for food, you can never conquer your human weaknesses. Hence the poor butcher is constantly earning bad karma. The poor fellow is thus paving the path for his suffering in his future births."

My wife and daughter had been listening to us. I looked at the wall-clock and it was 10:30.My wife hurried to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

Sattar took betel leaf from me and walked home at an unhurried pace and pensively. I was very happy about his recent soft approach to my answers.
