January 22
AMELIA POV
Today was Liam's birthday and we planned to have all our close friends and Owen's family over to celebrate.
"Hello sweetheart happy birthday!!!" I said as I walked into his room
"Happy Birthday buddy" Owen said picked him up and gave him a big hug.
We got dressed and started to prepare food for lunch a few hours later the first guests arrived, we were not many and it was simple. The meal went well and now I was in the kitchen with Mer and we were preparing the cake when my alarm on my phone rang, I had stopped the birth control two weeks ago but I had forgotten to turn off the alarm which reminded me to take it every day
"I think you have to take your pill, I'll get it for you if you want!" Mer said
"No, no, no, I don't need it," I said, and I knew I had said too much, she's my sister, so she would understand.
"Amelia! Are you trying to have a baby?" Meredith asked me.
"Yes we are, but you weren't supposed to know that " I answered and she hugged me
"I'm your sister I would have guessed it at some point! But please I want a girl this time!" she said and we laughed
"I'll do my best" I said and we went back to the living room singing "happy birthday" to Liam who was in Owen's arms and he clapped his hands
Now we were opening presents and Leo was helping Liam and it was cute
"This one is from Auntie Miranda" Bailey said and handed him the present, Leo helped him and Miranda had given him a book about the human body and everyone laughed
"Bailey you want to ensure the future generation! Alex said
"Yes, I have given this gift to each of my favorite surgeons' children, so he must have some too.
"Thank you for this sweet gift Miranda!" I said and smiled at her.

Two months later
10th of March
We had been trying to have a baby for 2 months now and I hadn't taken a test yet because I hadn't had any symptoms of pregnancy but this week I was late so I decided to take the test. Owen was at work so I was home alone with the boys so I locked myself in the bathroom and took the test.
« Negative » I was disappointed but I told myself that these things take time and that it was normal

May 31
I was at work today and Owen was at home, I was at my desk doing paperwork and then I paged the ER a 56 year old man had fallen and had numerous injuries that required neuro, cardio and general surgery and for once the lady chief trifecta was going to operate together
"What time is Leo's birthday tomorrow?" Maggie asked.
"Officially it starts at 3pm but you can come for lunch at home, we haven't eaten together in a long time" I replied
"No problem! And I kind of miss having you around" Meredith said
"Me too!" Maggie and I replied
We had been in surgery for over five hours now and we were far from finished.
I started to feel bad, my head was spinning and my stomach was hurting, but I continued to operate and after another hour it was finally over and I was able to leave and we went to the attending lounge but I was still feeling bad
"Are you ok? You are pale" Meredith asked me
"No I am not, I think Leo must have brought something from school, maybe the flu"I said
"With your history it would be nice to have your blood test" Maggie said
"Maggie stopped being so dramatic" I replied
"But she's right, it's only a blood test Amelia! Just to make sure everything is really ok" Meredith said
"Okay, I'll do it,"I said and Mer took my blood.
"I'll tell the lab to hurry up and we'll have them in less than 10 minutes in the meantime stay here with Maggie" She said and left the room
"Ok I got the results and everything looks great you were right he had nothing to worry about I don't think it's the flu since you don't have a temperature, maybe a stomach bug" Meredith said
"Oh that's okay then" Maggie said and I started to cry
"Amelia what's wrong" Maggie said and rubbed my back
"Oh Amelia!" Mer said with compassion because she understood why I was crying
"I just hoped my beta HCG level would be elevated " I said and cried
" have you talked to Owen about that ? ," Mer asked and hugged me.
"I've already done 8 tests since January and they've all been negative, I'm starting to think we'll never gonna succeed" I said
"I told you this before but you know that at the beginning with your brother we tried for more than 2 years to have a baby and in the end we had our children, don't lose hope" Mer said
"Yes, and especially talk to Owen." Maggie told me

OWEN POV
"I'm home" Amelia said
"We're in the kitchen" I said and she came in and I could see right away that something was wrong
"I'm going to take a shower...How long before we eat?" she asked.
"About 20 minutes," I said.
"Okay," she answered and left the kitchen.
When she came back, we ate and then put the boys to bed first Liam and then Leo
"Goodnight Leo we love you" we said and closed the door
"Ok I didn't say anything in front of the kids so I wouldn't worry them but I can see that something is wrong...what is it babe?" I asked
"Can we talk?" she asked and I nodded and we went down to the backyard to talk.
"Today I got sick at work and mer and maggie make me take a blood test and even though I knew I wasn't pregnant I still hope in my heart that I was but I'm not and that worries me Owen! I don't understand why?" she said and I could see that she wanted to cry
"It worries me too, Amelia, but sometimes things like that take time, all the tests we did were negative but this is not your fault Mia,So we keep trying and if in 6 months you are still not pregnant we will call Naomi, she is a specialist and she will be able to help us. What do you think?" I suggested and kissed her forehead
"I think it's a good idea" she replied "and thank you for always being there for me! You always know what to say to make me feel better, I love you!" She said and kissed me.
" I am always gonna be there for you and I love you more" I said and took her in my arms
" impossible" she answered

AMELIA POV
"Ok so I would like to start ovarian stimulation if that's ok with you " Naomi said
"Yes of course!" Owen asked, "tell us a little more ab out this method.
"Ok so first of all.... "she started to explain the whole procedure to us
"It's going to be hard I'm not going to lie to you and quite painful for you Amelia and it's not sure if it's going to work but we'll start the injections soon " Naomi said
"Thanks Nai!" I said,hugged her and then Owen and I left.
