CHAPTER 4

        I REALLY WISH IT’S NOT YOU.....

       Adam reached home by the time sun had already returned to the sea. “Ah- You almost gave me a heart attack.” Adam found his sister sitting on the bed entirely covered by a blanket. He removed her blanket and continued, “Where did you go? Is that a rose?” “Hmm...I can’t figure it out, I gave him a yellow rose representing friendship but he gave me a pink rose in return..” Veronica was still staring at the rose. “I asked you something...” Adam waved his hands in front of her eyes. “Ah Right I- I was with Ce- No I was with Rainier.” “Rainier? Wow.. He tricked me in to this didn’t he..? I will just leave you here.” Said Adam watching her sister who was way too much focused on the rose. “I don’t know who gave it to you but.. Pink rose really means an innocent romantic love.” Said Adam looking back at her before leaving the room. “Aaaah noo” Veronica covered herself again with the blanket. “Okay...?” Adam left the room immediately realising he just made the situation worse.

        “What’s the deal with her...?” Asked Rainier looking at Veronica who was walking leaning on Adam’s shoulder. Adam shushed Rainier. “I’m sorry Adam I tricked you yesterday..” “I was waiting the entire day for this..Come on Rainier explain..” Adam stopped in the middle of the street waiting for Rainier to explain. “No need to get mad...We just went to the restricted hilltop and forbidden garden..” Explained Rainier and laughed nervously. “Without me, huh? And you did what?” “We just talked and we agreed on being friends, Right?” Rainier turned to Veronica. “What? Ah yes we agreed on being friends.” Veronica replied with a nervous laughter. Adam clenched his jaw rolling his eyes. “Let me make it up to you Adam.” Said Rainier handing Adam a masquerade mask. “What’s this for?” “Come to my brother’s masquerade ball, no one will know all will bee wearing masks as Arthur wants his fiancée’s face hidden.” “Oh No way Rainier I am not coming.” “Don’t take decision’s so fast what if you can find your Sapphire eyes there?” Rainier patted on Adam’s shoulder and gave a mask to Veronica and winked. “I will come pick you two at night.” Rainier shouted as he walked away.

        “Arthur, dear nephew.. It’s a big day.” Minister Walter handed the Vine cup to Arthur. “Did you invite blind lady over too?” “I had to dear boy..The people will be watching.” Walter poured more and more Vine as Arthur kept on drinking. “I don’t understand why that half blood is being so kind to me.” “He is pitying you for your crown Arthur don’t fall for his sweet talk, him and his mother seems to be expert in it.” “I know..Uncle but-” “There are not buts in this we are ending him today.” Walter left the room. Arthur kicked the table down in fury.

         “Hey..HEY!!” Rainier knocked on Veronica’s window. “Ced...? What are you doing her?” She whispered opening the window. “I wanted to give you two these clothes..and the front door was locked.” “What do you mean locked you could just have knocked there.” “Actually forget it I just wanted to see your room June..and where is your brother?” “He is downstairs..” Veronica replied still in shock. “Well you came early..” Adam entered the room with a smile. “Look if this fits you..” Rainier gave Adam a suit. “You have a great sense of fashion.” “Wait why are you both acting like this is so normal.” “What’s not normal? Asked Adam raising his one eyebrow. Veronica stared at the window then Rainier and back at Adam. “Yeah what’s not normal except this girl keeping this rose in the water..” Rainier picked up the rose from last day from a glass. “I knew it you both are in this together, aren’t you?” Veronica grabbed the rose back and left the room to change. Adam and Rainier laughed and high-fived each other.

         “I don’t want to go and you know that Agnes.” “You have to Prince Arthur said-” “I don’t care about him.” Agnes could see the pain in Ezra’s eyes. “It’s been two years Ezra-” “How dare he conduct a ball on the day his and my father died?” Ezra looked at Agnes and found her staring at the door. Ezra turned around so see
Minister Walter standing by the door. “Hope I didn’t interrupt your little talk Queen, Now listen to me Kid..” Walter grabbed Ezra’s hand and tightened his grip and continued, “Even if you don’t want to we don’t care..Be there at time or else you know what happens.” Walter threw her to the ground. “I’d rather die than to marry him.” Walter slapped her face and pulled out his knife. He slit through her shoulder to her elbow slowly letting her know the pain. She didn’t cry out but tears were flowing down her face. “Make sure she reach there or the one who dies will be you.” Walter pointed his knife at Agnes and left the house.

         “We are going to be late Veronica!” “Wait..Few more minutes.” Veronica yelled back at Adam. “What’s your plan?” “Her dress is matching to mine same colour to be honest, Me and mother spend hours on choosing that.” “Well impressive, But If you break her heart Rainier I break your bones.” Adam Said Kissing his fist. “I can’t believe you are actually supporting me to like your sister tho, If everyone had a brother like you the world would have been a better place.” “Don’t you dare sweet talk me stupid, Don’t make me change my mind and I’m not the bad sibling here.” “Hey you both I- I think I’m ready..” Adam and Rainier turned around. Veronica was wearing a lavender off shouldered ball gown decorated by swarovski crystals till the waist and the rest with net flowers, Her hair was curly plaited “You look Beau-....not so bad today.” Said Rainier and walked out of the room. “Do I look that bad?” Veronica asked Adam all confused. Adam just couldn’t control his chortle but not at Veronica but the face Rainier made before leaving the room so he left the room without saying anything. Veronica looked at the mirror one more time, “It’s not that bad and I love this dress.”

         Adam ran out and found Rainier leaning against and facing the wall. “What in the world.” Adam slowly approached Rainier and turned Rainier’s body around. Rainier’s face was all red so was his ears. He covered his face in embarrassment. “You can’t be serious....No... way...Are you blushing Uwaki?” Adam couldn’t hold back his laughter any more. “Can we leave for the ball already?” Asked Veronica who was standing there all along. “Tell your mother I loved the dress Rainier.” “Say it yourself you will meet her today.” Replied Rainier pulling himself together. Veronica shrugged and started walking ahead. “That- THAT means she heard it all right? RIGHT?” Asked Rainier punching lightly on Adam’s shoulder. “I have no idea your girl your problem.” Adam raised his eyebrows and ran trying to catch up with Veronica. “I still can’t believe why he is so supportive.” Rainier mumbled to himself.

          “Let me raise a toast to-” Random royal member was announcing the ceremony. “Oh man I think we are late.” Three of them entered the palace and found seats for themselves. “No matter what happens don’t remove your masks.” Rainier reminded them one last time. “Now let us all bow to the future queen..” The Royal member announced. All got up and The future Queen entered the hall, Her Long red gown got everyone’s attention. She stood next to Arthur, Everyone bowed but Adam stood there still glaring. Rainier made him bow as he noticed everyone’s eye was now on Adam. “Bow down Adam you really want us all to be killed, don’t you?” Veronica whispered. But Adam cannot help but to notice the blood dripping down her arms. “Now let the Ball begin.” Announced Arthur staring directly at Minister.

         The pianists and violinists started playing slow music. All picked partner and started dancing and then we have our Trio sitting there like illumination. “Want to dance?” Adam tilted his head to see Agnes standing next to him. “Su- sure I guess?” Agnes dragged Adam with her to dance without actually recognising him. Veronica and Rainier exchanged a glance. “You want to dance or something?” Both of them asked simultaneously. Rainier offered his hand and Veronica held it. They all started dancing. Arthur and Ezra was also in the crowd. It was time to exchange the partner, The Ladies spun and changed their partner. Ezra landed on Adam’s arms, Adam and Ezra’s Pov, “Those eyes....”

         Veronica and Arthur joined but Veronica could see the smirk in Arthur’s face. “You are coming with us Princess of Miriana.” Arthur dragged Veronica from the hall. Even though the partner was changed Rainier couldn’t leave his eyes off Veronica, He suddenly noticed she was missing and went looking for her. Minister barged in through the crowd and pulled Ezra’s hand who was dancing with Adam. “You need to leave now.” Ezra was about to leave with him but Adam pulled her back and said, “Your hand is hurt My highness and I don’t even know your name but you look like someone I know.” She changed his glance from Ezra, planted it on Minister and continued, “So I refuse to let her go.” “How dare you!” Minister grabbed Adam by his collar. EZRA’S POV, “Your voice, So it is you....Adam.” ADAM’S
POV, “I don’t know why but, I don’t want you to be Ezra.”

        “VERONICA!!”Rainier wandered around the palace for Veronica. He called out her name many time with no response. He suddenly felt a grip on his hand, He was dragged to the great palace dining hall by royal guards. “Leave me.” Rainier tried to get out of their grip but without success. They threw him next to Veronica, only a few moments later Adam was bought dragging partially unconscious by the minister and guards. “Don’t hurt him Arthur!” Ezra tried to get inside the dining hall but guards took her back. He was covered in blood there were wounds got from getting beaten up. They both were kneeled down on the ground. “Why are you doing this Arthur?” “Don’t you know Rainier you are getting in my way over and over again and.. I don’t like it.” Arthur and Minister started laughing. Minister raised his hand to slap Veronica but Arthur stopped him, “We talked about this, only Rainier.” So Minister took out his knife and stabbed right through Rainier’s back.  Rainier groaned in Pain. “Why are you hurting him?” Adam asked grabbing Minister’s arm. “Who are these Jerks? Remove their masks.” The guards came forward to remove their masks but-
               “SMOKE BOMBS?”
