CHAPTER 21

       WISHING CAN BE PAINFUL TOO

       Adam crumbled the paper and threw it on the ground, “It’s Nolan isn’t it? He will not be far.” “Wait!” Arthur stopped Wolf who was about to go after him, “It’s your sister who’s more important..” Wolf covered his eyes with his palm. “We should go to her.” Adam ran towards the house and the rest two followed him. Adam entered to see blood all over her bed, The rest of them were still not moving especially Derek. Rainier came up to Adam and said, “You and Agnes should go and buy medicines and supplies I will stay here and take care of her.” “It is very dangerous to bring Agnes with me, You should come with me Agnes can stay here.” Adam and Rainier rushed out, Adam stopped beside Arthur and whispered to his ears. “Make sure Wolf don’t see what’s inside..” Arthur nodded in reply.

          Adam and Rainier entered the market which was crowded as usual, “Watch out for sellers Rainier..That’s what your cousin like to roam around in..” Rainier barely smiled. “Is something bothering you?” “No- Nothing..” “Does it have something to do with Veronica and Wolf?” “Uhm..Actually..” “It’s nothing to worry about Veronica is always like that, She likes to fix broken people..She can understand pain in people.” “Like you..She is just like you..But you are prettier.” They both laughed for a moment but silence filled between them again as they were searching for medical stores. “How come you don’t know anything about medicines?” “I was in different department.” Finally with the help of shop owner they successfully purchased the supplies and reached home.

     After giving the medicine and supplies to Agnes they all went out of the room,
Adam decided to go and sit beside the banyan tree. “DEREK!!” Adam found Derek sitting beside the tree shaking, His entire body was covered in her blood and He was staring at his bloodied hands crying. Adam made him stand up but he was still not conscious, “Get yourself together Derek..” He shook his body. “I- I couldn’t save her-” He suddenly hugged Adam as he hugged back. Adam could feel Derek’s tears flowing down his shoulders. Adam slowly patted his back for him to calm down, Later he made him wash himself. Derek finally began to act normal, “I should really give up on her..” “What do you mean?” Adam turned to him, “She even whispers his name even though she is unconscious..” He chuckled deeply.

       “Wolf are you okay?” Veronica came and sat beside him, He was sitting with his head buried between his knees. She patted on his head slowly, “It’s going to be okay..She is fine now look.” Wolf slowly raised his head to see Fox smiling at him. Her wound was clothed and she was feeling better now. Wolf was feeling relieved and tears started to fall of his eyes, “Don’t you dare get in danger again.” He hugged her tight. “Okay..okay, You are hurting me..” Wolf suddenly pulled back smiling. She pinched him by his ear and asked, “You could have saved me..” “Why would I do that huh?” Veronica stood there smiling at Wolf and Fox fighting each other playfully.

       “My angel is smiling huh?” Veronica turned around as someone spoke near her ears. “Oii! You pay no attention to me now a days..” “Huh!!? Me? You are the one who-” Rainier stopped in between. “Who what? Ced?” “...Who hangs around with Wolf all the time...” He mumbled quite audibly. “Aah!! You can’t be serious..Wait- you are?” She noticed he was not looking at her at all. She cupped his face and continued, “Wolf has been through a lot, He seems like he could have a friend.” “Okay fine then, Go out with me. I’ll take you somewhere..” “Okay!” Rainier held her hand and was about to walk out of the door. Veronica felt an another hand holding her other hand, “Wolf?” Veronica asked with a smile, “What happened?” Rainier was glaring intensely at Wolf. “Can we go out? I couldn’t thank you properly.” Wolf asked as he didn’t knew anything going on there. “She can’t!” “Rainier don’t be mean, Maybe he can join us?” “He can’t!” “No..Veronica..It’s fine I can treat you someday later..” “June..Wait for me outside I’ll have to use the wash room real quick..” Veronica left with Fox.  Rainier grabbed Wolf by his collar and punched him, Wolf collapsed on the ground. Rainier kneeled down, “Don’t wish for something you can’t have..” He whispered to Wolf’s ears. Wolf’s eyes widened, He could feel his heart turning black. Rainier went outside, “Wh-what have I done..” Wolf whispered to himself, He could feel his whole body shaking.

        Arthur stood in the next room seeing all this, As if he was frozen. As soon as Rainier left he come running towards Wolf, “Are- Are you okay?” “Yes.” Arthur helped him to get up, He could see Wolf was panting hard. “I- I apologise on behalf of his mistake..” “Why are you apologising?” “I just- I’ve never seen him like this before..” “He have really changed from the fourteen year old boy I used to know huh?” Said Wolf with a warm smile and touched Arthur’s shoulder and was about to walk away, “You are right..” Wolf turned back at him as Arthur continued, “He is nothing like the boy who left 5 years ago..Where are you going?” “To the woods, Where I belong..” He winked at Arthur and left.

      “Where are we going Ced?” No answer. “Ced?” “Yes?” “Where are we going?” He patted her head, “I promised that I will show you the waterfalls in the Heart lake from above..so..” “Ayy!! Really?” He nodded with a smile. “Let’s go then what are we waiting for..?” She pulled him with her. They walked around the woods, He just kept on looking at her but whenever she looked at him he couldn’t face her. Rainier suddenly stopped. “What happened Rainier?” She turned around as she was a few steps ahead of him.

        “Derek? Are you okay?” Regina came towards him struggling to find him.
She touched his face and tears were flowing down her cheeks. “Why are you crying mother?” “This is all my fault..” She suddenly collapsed on floor crying. Derek held her close and asked, “What happened?” “I wasn’t sure that’s why I couldn’t tell anyone of you..I trust you Derek, I trust you the most..” “Tell me mother..” “No one has ever seen Rainier since he was fourteen Derek..It isn’t him..” “What are you talking about?” “I’m his mother Derek, After he returned from aboard he barely talked with me when he did.. It’s not him Derek trust me..” “But- but mother what are you talking about? It’s just not possible.” “I heard the arrow from his room.” Derek ran towards the home and thoroughly searched his room, Here it was the bow and arrows with black and white feathers. Derek froze for a moment, “What happened!” Adam and Arthur barged in as they saw him run.

     “What happened Rainier?” “Do- Do you really love me?” He asked walking towards her. “Of course I do..” She replied with her plump smile. “Then...Then I’m going to miss you for sure..” “Huh?” Before she could know he smashed on her head with a heavy stick. She collapsed on the ground that instant. He dropped the stick as his hands were shaking. “It’s all your fault..You weren’t supposed to be born with them..” He picked her up and walked towards the waterfall.

     “He- He- He is not Rainier..” “Where is Veronica?” Adam ran out. “Property of..The Devil Prince? He is the Devil Prince?” Derek asked at Arthur who was already shaking. “We have to find him..” Arthur and Derek rushed out too. Wolf was lying on a huge branch of a tree, “I should have never known how much I loved her if that didn’t happen today..” He laughed feebly at himself. Wolf was holding a sketch book, With a portrait of Veronica in it. “Rainier is right I shouldn’t wish for a princess who is already being loved by a good man.” He kept on mumbling to himself. His book fell off from his hand, He jumped off to pick it up. He was only few meters away from the lake so he can hear anything happening there. A sudden loud splash caught his attention.

        “You were really a good person Veronica, I’m afraid even though it was all an act, I’ve really fell in love with you..But I couldn’t even get to say you my real name. I’m Cyrus, Cyrus Theo Walter.” He dropped her down to the lake from above. Her bracelet got stuck on his jacket, He threw it away and looked down at her slowly drowning. “I guess that was it for us huh?”

       Wolf reached the Lake and looked around, He saw Rainier standing above the waterfall, “Is that Rainier?” Rainier walked away. Wolf’s eyes caught on something shining below his legs, He picked it up. His eyes widened. “It’s- It’s the butterfly charm I made for Veronica.” He didn’t even think twice, He dropped the bracelet and jumped into the lake. He swam deeper and deeper until he found her going more inside still unconscious. He finally got closer to her, He grabbed her by her waist and swam upwards. He took a deep breadth as they reached the surface. He laid her on the ground and tried to get all the water out of her. “Please please don’t die on me..” He pressed her chest and finally she coughed all the water out. “You are alive!” He hugged her close. She wasn’t fully awake yet so he decided to carry her home.

    “Did you do it?” “I did..” “They have probably found out about me too..”
Walter laughed hysterically and patted him on his shoulder. “This is how keeping a son secret can benefit you..I’m proud of you Cyrus..” Cyrus smiled wide. “Brother!” Nolan came in the room and hugged him.
