CHAPTER 23

                SWEET SERENDIPITY...

       Veronica decided to take a look around her as she was not feeling well, She was feeling betrayed and lost.“Noona...” Kai was disturbed all day but finally he decided to talk with her, “Kai Chan...I missed you..” This made him look up at her with his doe eyes, He just hugged her as she was about to fly away. “Oii..You okay?” She asked him holding his chin up, He nodded and let go of her. Fox patted his head smiling wholeheartedly. Which made Veronica happy, She smiled a little.

        She decided to sit by the balcony but saw it was already occupied by Derek, Adam and Arthur. They were laughing, Playfully fighting each other, talking. “This reminded her of a fourth figure which used to stand beside them, “Rainier- No! Cyrus...What you did was-” “Uh..huh..Go on..” The second voice almost gave her a heart attack. “Ezra!!” She yelled at her. “You were thinking about Cyrus, Why?” “I don’t know..” “Then I know...You feel betrayed, you probably think of yourself as something weak now..” Ezra saw Veronica tightening her grip on her gown, Ezra grabbed her hand and continued, “You heal others don’t you? Have you forgotten to heal yourself?” Ezra decided to leave Veronica with that question. Veronica stood there looking at her leave.

         “Veronica?” Derek noticed her standing there. They called her inside, “Were you eavesdropping?” Arthur asked as a joke, “No I wasn’t..” She chuckled quietly. Arthur came up to her with a calm face, “Hmm..hmm? You usually don’t laugh like that?” Arthur pinched her nose, “Show me those crooked teeth of yours..” She felt overwhelmed. Looking up to Arthur reminded her of her father, that calm smile of his made her feel like loved. It’s the same feeling she got from talking to Adam and Ezra.

         “Oiii~” Veronica turned to Derek, He cupped his own face and smiled, “Kimi wa watashi no kokoro no naka no tenshi desu..(You are the angel in my heart..)” “Meccha Kawaii!!(Very cute!!) Even though I know it’s a lie..” “Don’t be like that it took me hours to learn this sentence from Adam..” He said laughing, Which made her laugh too. She saw the satisfaction in their faces, “Aigoo~ I missed those rabbit tooth..” Said Adam flicking her forehead and they all left the room.

         Veronica sat in her room reading a book, “Onēsan!!(Older sister)” Kai came and sat next to her, Veronica’s pov, “No, not again I can’t see them all like this..” But to her surprise he handed her an apple, “You haven’t eaten all day..” “How did you know?” “I just know..” He made her eat it, Agnes entered the room to check on her wounds. “I might be going then..” Said Kai leaving the room waving at her. “That kid is pure Arthur..” Said Agnes. She slowly removed the cloths tied on her wounds, Veronica hissed in pain. “They are hurting isn’t it? Pain goes away with time..All you need is some time.” Agnes went back to her work, Deep down assuming Veronica understood what she meant indirectly. And she did. “Did you get the apple?” Asked Fox poking through the door. “Yes I did why?” “Nothing I was just afraid he would’ve eaten it alone.” Fox walked away. “It was her..” she smiled and whispered to herself.

        Veronica was sitting beside the banyan tree looking at the sky. “Yaa!” Before she could look who it was, she felt like she was raised above the ground because someone was pulling her by her collar. “Wolf?” He placed her back on the ground. “You could have just asked me to stand up.” “yeah yeah I just wanted to ask have you eaten?” “Hmm..” She nodded. “What?” “Apple.” She laughed but he wasn’t laughing. He raised his eyebrows and look at her giving a disgusted look. “You call that eating?” She nodded again, He flicked her forehead. “Ouch..What was that for?” She asked. She couldn’t even reach to flick back, “This is unfair” She pouted. Wolf coughed and looked away, He was constantly pulling his ear. He bent down towards her and faced her. “Let’s eat..”

        “You are going to choke to death.” Said Wolf looking coldly at Veronica. “No one has ever bought me Apple pie since I got here..It’s my favourite.” “I know.” He mumbled to himself, “Can’t you just eat slowly and moreover You used to eat different around that Cyrus..” “I just wanted to be a perfect girl around him, I threw away my goofy side and became more girly..” He noticed her head was dropped. He flicked her head again, “I’m going to eat all this if you don’t..” “Huh! You wish..” She slapped his hand which was about to take a piece from her plate. He turned his head to other and smiled folding his hands back. It was getting cold under the banyan tree.

       “Let’s go inside, I assume they all have already slept.” They both started walking towards the house, Veronica was getting all sweaty. “You all right?” He asked not facing her. “I’m oka-” Her legs lost balance and she was about to fall but he grabbed her hand. He pulled her back, she was weak and barely conscious. Her body was shaking, He touched her forehead and it was burning. “Don’t make me drag you all over there..” “I’m sorry..I always cause trouble to you..” “Shut up!” He placed her arm around his waist and gave her support to walk towards her room.
“I’ll go now.” Said Wolf after making her sit on her bed. She nodded and went to sleep.

         Few hours passed and Wolf was sitting in the room leaning to the wall since she fell asleep. He put a wet cloth on her forehead and was about to walk out, “Wolf? What are you still doing up?” “Huh!? I- I just came to take this book of yours but your fever was very high and I decided to put a wet cloth on your head. Don’t be scared I was about to walk out.” Even though he was embarrassed, He said it all with a straight face. “Veronica, where are you going?” He asked confused seeing her getting out of bed. “I wanted to make some coffee..My throat is not feeling very well..” She replied rubbing her eyes. He walked up to her, She raised her head high to face him. He pushed her head with his finger instead of just asking her to sit back. “I can do that..” “No..no you don’t have to-” “Don’t worry I know how to make a coffee..” Wolf’s was facing the wall and his eyes were disturbed. “That’s not what I meant- Never mind.” He gave her a look through his hair covering half of them. Wolf left to the kitchen.

      Wolf tried hard not to make any voice, He boiled water and searched thoroughly for coffee powder. His silence skills were not good enough to trick Regina. She reached the kitchen supporting on her walking cane. “What’s going on here Wolf?” His eyes widened as she recognised him before he spoke, “Nothing mother I’m not feeling well so I craved for some coffee..” “The coffee powder is on the third shelf..” She took it for him. “I’ll be going to sleep then.” She walked back. She stopped by the door and said, “Ginger is kept in a box in a drawer..It’ll be good for her health..” She went back to her room. “She just didn’t say ‘Her health’ No she didn’t..” Wolf continued to make coffee by calming himself down.

       “You better drink that all..” Said Wolf handing the coffee over to Veronica. “Is this Ginger coffee? I love ginger coffee..” “Good then.” He mumbled to himself, “Drink up and sleep, I’ll sit here in case you need something..” He sat on the ground leaning the wall, Reading a book. After finishing the coffee she pretended to be asleep and without his knowledge Wolf fell asleep leaning the wall covering his face with the book. Veronica started to whisper to herself, “Everyone made me feel so special today...Adam was a good brother as always, Ezra made me think like my mother used to, Arthur reminded me of my father.., Fox and Kai cared for me, Agnes healed my pain...But, What about you Wolf? You brought me back to normal..
