Chapter Text

"Blinky thinks he's reaaaaaaal funny," Toby growled. "Start small he said. I didn't think he literally meant start small!"

Toby was currently no taller than a gnome and was standing in Jim's palm. Claire was walking next to him.

"Well, at least you got the amulet back, and captured the gnome!" Jim smiled, holding up his other hand which was holding a small brown sack that contained the gnome. It had just turned night and the three had finally left Trollmarket. Jim had to admit, it was pretty funny in this situation when he wasn't the one who had gotten shrunk.

Toby's amulet was now back to its regular size after Toby had harnessed its power and shrunk the amulet down to his size. Right now, the amulet was in Jim's bag.

"But now I have to kill the gnome, Jim!" Toby responded. Jim shrugged.

"You don't have to kill the gnome," Jim stated. Toby gave Jim an unamused expression.

"Rule number two of Trollhunting, Jim, always finish the fight," Toby informed.

"I'm just saying that Blinky told you to take care of the gnome. What if you literally took care of the gnome! He could be an ally, Tobes," Jim returned.

"Well that's an interesting loophole," Claire said. Toby huffed.

"I'll think about it, okay? By the way, can I stay at your place tonight, Jim? I don't want to accidentally get eaten by one of my Nana's cats," Toby shivered.

"Sure, Tobes," Jim replied.

"So how long did Blinky say your size would last?" Claire asked. Toby shrugged.

"He said I should be back to normal by morning."

"Heres hoping," Jim mumbled. "Claire do you want me to walk you back to your place?"

"I'll be fine, I appreciate it but it looks like your hands are full. Literally. I'll see you tomorrow at school though!" Claire smiled.

"Yeah. Bye Claire," Jim waved. Claire gave Jim a soft smile.

"Bye Jim."

Claire walked down her road and Jim began walking down his.

"Wow, are you sure you two aren't dating yet?" Toby teased. Jim scoffed but smiled.

"We're just friends, Tobes," Jim replied.

"I thought you said you wanted to be more!"

"I never said I didn't! Of course, I like her but I want to be respectful about it. Maybe one day I'll ask her out or something," Jim countered. "Ah look we're home."

Jim walked inside and quickly made his way up to his room and gently placed Toby and the sack on the end of his bed. Jim stretched and felt several of his bones pop. Shaking out his joints, Jim went over to his drawer and pulled out some sweatpants. No way was he getting out of his hoodie with Toby around. This was not the time for Toby to find out he had horns.

"Hey, what's on your bedside?" Toby's voice called out. Jim turned to see Toby at the end of his bed slowly walking towards his bedside. Jim looked to see what was on his bedside and froze. It was his amulet!

Shooting forward at lightning speed, Jim snatched the amulet from his bedside and shoved it into his pocket.

"Nothing!" Jim yelped. "Nothing at all!"

"That didn't seem like nothing!" Toby barked back. "I've never seen you move so fast in your life!"

"Come on, Tobes, I wasn't moving that fast. It's just some stupid clock that someone gave me. Really nothing important," Jim muttered. Toby gave Jim suspicious eyes but dropped the matter.
