NATALIE
The smell of heavy tobacco made my headache as I entered the room. I couldn't stay here any longer with such a heavy smell. Neither Ian intended to keep me here long.
"The situation is worse than we thought," I said, sitting in a black chair with wheeled legs and looking at the ground.
"You need to be strong... You need to be strong" Detective hurriedly opened the folder. He picked up the phone and dialed the short number.
"Sam, bring information to my room"
I didn't know his name, but a few days ago I thought he had called the man next to our house who was taking notes with a small notebook in his hand. It wasn't long before I thought I was right. A minute or two later, the same police officer entered through the door and handed the blue folder to Ian. He put his glasses on his desk, but he rolled his eyes and took out the documents in the folder. I was reluctant to tell him I needed to change my glasses. When I saw the ashtray on the dark brown table, I realized where the smell was coming from. Although her clothes were neat, the room looked extremely untidy and cluttered. The clothes hanger was bent, and the dust from the folders was visible from a distance.
He approached me, selecting the document he needed from the sheets. As soon as he came to me, I got up.
He handed me the enlarged card after he rolled his eyes again before handing me the picture. As I looked at the picture, it seemed to me that Ian was looking at me intently to see my reaction. Chestnut hair was shed over his shoulders, he was about 27-28 years old. He had a slender chin, pointed cheeks, and eyebrows, though unnatural, were straight and long enough to suit his facial features.
"It's not your family or relatives," he said. He did not ask a question but was waiting for confirmation.
"No, she is not"
"Do you know this woman in general?"
I still couldn't take my eyes off the picture. The question was simple, but it made me think. I shook my head.
"No. I don't know her"
"But you're not sure"
I raised my head and looked at Ian. I did not understand what he meant.
"If you were sure, you wouldn't look so long," he said.
"She simply doesn't have any features that I can remember. I mean, maybe even if I've ever seen her, I can't remember." I didn't know how satisfied he was with my answer. "What's her name? Maybe I will remember something from her name." I still had the picture in my hand. As soon as I finished, he looked at the picture, I tried to remember the woman. It was a very strange feeling. I wanted to know her.
"Katherine Jennings. 31 years old, works as an accountant in a private company "
"Which private company? Maybe it is a company related to our company"
"M.U.R ltd"
I took a deep breath and looked at Ian again in despair. He understood what I meant.
He put the picture on his desk.
"I will give you additional information. We investigated the dates when Paul did not leave the country. We found the remaining hotels "
Suddenly I remembered that I wanted to ask Ian about it. I listened to him without interrupting.
"All entrances and exits of hotels are single. In other words, Paul did not go to the hotel with another woman or anyone else. In short, I think Paul did not go to those hotels to cheat on you. "
I said, "He was in those hotels for another reason."
He paused. I understood that he would move on to a new topic. "I have a request from you," he said.
I said nothing to let him continue.
"There will be secret police surveillance around your house. I say this to comfort you. "
They knew Paul was getting closer to me. I understood at that moment. I realized that the police were helpless and did not have anything to hold on to. Paul was one step ahead of everyone. As stated in the letter.
Be patient... I will be the last person you see when you close your eyes
